Jon Corzine Is the Original George Zimmerman - by Matt Taibbi

Jon Corzine Is the Original George Zimmerman
POSTED: April 24, 8:37 AM ET

......................

Somebody from MF Global has to be arrested soon. The message otherwise to middle America is so galling that it boggles the mind.

It would be one thing if this was a country with a general, across-the-board tendency toward leniency for property crime. But we send tens of thousands of people to do real jail time in this country for non-violent offenses like theft. We routinely separate mothers from their children for relatively petty crimes like welfare fraud. For almost anyone who isn’t Jon Corzine, it’s no joke to get caught stealing in America.

But these people stole over a billion dollars, right out in the open, and nobody is doing anything about it. Instead, we get a lot of chin-scratching legislative hearings, and an almost academic-style public discussion about whether or not a crime even took place. If there aren’t arrests in this case soon, ordinary people will correctly deduce that it simply isn’t a crime to steal in America, if the thefts are executed with a computer by white people in suits.

Just as it was incredible when Florida authorities dragged their feet in the Zimmerman case, it’s incredible that people in Washington don’t see the implications of this continual non-decision on MF Global. Apparently they hope no one notices. The sad thing is, they might be right.

Schechter: 'Murdoch represents Republicans in UK'

The British government has come under fire for advising media tycoon Rupert Murdoch's son, James about his bid to take full control of pay-TV giant BSkyB. The Leveson press ethics inquiry has learned that US based News Corporation under James Murdoch's leadership had close and frequent contact with advisors to Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt but Hunt has rejected the allegation.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Danny Schechter, media expert with mediachannel1.org, to share his opinion on this issue.

Weapons Expert Who Worked With Dr David Kelly Found Dead In "Apparent Suicide"

Suicide riddle of weapons expert who worked with David Kelly: Scientist tells wife he is going for a walk, then takes his life in a field... just like his friend
Body of Dr Richard Holmes discovered in a field four miles from the Porton Down defence establishment
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances in latest case but revealed scientist was 'under a great deal of stress'
He resigned from Porton Down last month, but it is unclear why

A weapons expert who worked with Dr David Kelly at the Government’s secret chemical warfare laboratory has been found dead in an apparent suicide.

In circumstances strongly reminiscent of Dr Kelly’s own mysterious death nine years ago, the body of Dr Richard Holmes was discovered in a field four miles from the Porton Down defence establishment in Wiltshire. It is not yet known how he died.

Mr Holmes, 48, had gone missing two days earlier after telling his wife he was going out for a walk – just as Dr Kelly did before he was found dead at an Oxfordshire beauty spot in July 2003

Military Gives to Obama

Despite a long history of voting Republican and once-enthusiastic support for Ron Paul, employees of the military are now giving far more campaign money to Obama than Romney, who apparently remains unliked by pretty much everyone. From Open Secrets.

The table below shows donations from military and civilian employees of the military, as well as the Department of Defense, in March, 2012.

Scalia Likens Undocumented Immigrants To ‘Bank Robbers’

Source: Talking Points Memo

In his fervent defense Wednesday of Arizona’s right to crack down on illegal immigration, Justice Antonin Scalia likened immigration enforcement to crackdowns on bank robbers.

“What’s wrong about the states enforcing federal law?” Scalia said during his aggressive questioning of U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli. “There is a federal law against robbing federal banks. Can it be made a state crime to rob those banks? I think it is.”

The Reagan-appointed justice mocked the Obama administration’s argument that S.B. 1070 unconstitutionally forces the federal government to re-prioritize its enforcement resources and go after undocumented people who are not dangerous.

“But does the attorney general come in and say, you know, we might really only want to go after the professional bank robbers?” Scalia said. “If it’s just an amateur bank robber, you know, we’re going to let it go. And the state’s interfering with our whole scheme here because it’s prosecuting all these bank robbers.”

Romney to Bain: Bail Me Out and Lie About It

Romney to Bain: Bail Me Out and Lie About It
Posted: 04/25/2012 7:40 pm

......................

Credit Lawrence O'Donnell for exposing Romney's sweetheart deal with Bain Capital that had been described in "The Real Romney."

Bain & Company established a subsidiary called Bain Capital that was seeded with millions of dollars.

But, Romney was afraid, (yes, afraid!) he might fail, so he got Bain & Company to agree in advance to take him back if he failed, and with all the salary increases he might have received had he remained at the parent company.

..............................

But, that is not all. Romney was concerned that, if he failed, it would damage his reputation. (One is tempted to ask, "what reputation?", but that is another story). So, Bain agreed that if Romney failed at Bain Capital, it would announce that Romney was returning to the parent because the parent company "needed him."

Stephen Colbert Damns "Influential" Cardinal Dolan with Faint Praise

Stephen Colbert Damns "Influential" Cardinal Dolan with Faint Praise
posted by PAUL CONSTANT on WED, APR 25, 2012 at 2:03 PM

Last night, Time magazine honored their list of 100 most influential people by hosting a dinner. During that dinner, Stephen Colbert gave a speech that gently mocked some of the influencers and ripped others to shreds. So far as I know, there's no video of the speech available online yet, but the transcript is very funny:

Now, TIME 100 honoree, his eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan disagrees — sir, lovely to see you again.
Of course, now some, some critics have said in response to this that if the Catholic church's insurance does not cover Sandra Fluke's birth control, it shouldn't cover Cardinal Dolan's Viagra.

Oh, no, no, no. Oh, no, no, no, that's called celibacy plus. That's how the pros do it. Because chastity is one thing, but it shows true commitment to uphold your vows when you are sporting a crook you could hang a lighter on. Oh, wow, see you at mass on Sunday, sir?

I hope he doesn't become Pope.

I'm a Catholic, it's okay. I go to confession, it will be fine. Thank you.

Appeals court declines to take up voter ID case

Appeals court declines to take up voter ID case
By Patrick Marley of the Journal Sentinel April 25, 2012 3:32 p.m.

Madison -- The Court of Appeals declined to take up a Dane County case Wednesday that blocked the state's new law requiring people to show photo ID at the polls.

The latest order is a further setback for those who support the voter ID law, and is another sign the law almost surely will remain halted for the May 8 primaries and June 5 recall elections.

Dane County Circuit Judge David Flanagan temporarily enjoined the voter ID law last month, saying the Milwaukee branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and immigrant rights group Voces de la Frontera were likely to succeed in their argument the law is unconstitutional.

A week later, Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess permanently enjoined the law in a case brought by the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin.

George W. Bush-Discharge Papers - "Military Qualifications" = "NONE"

What’s clear, however, is that Bush’s superiors made it unusually easy for him to quit flying and leave Houston. They first attempted to sign him up for a postal unit in Alabama that met once a month. (The commander of the outfit told Bush he couldn’t guarantee that the group would even exist in three months but added, “We’re glad to have you!”) When Bush was informed that he couldn’t fulfill his duty by doing that, he sent a letter requesting “equivalent duty” with the 187th Tactical Reconnaissance Group, at Dannelly Air Base, in Montgomery. The unit commander, in official memos, said Bush could start by attending two drills in September 1972. He didn’t show up for the drills.

When Bush lost his flight status, in August 1972, the official military protocol of the Texas Air National Guard was to open an internal investigation and review why the pilot didn’t show up for his physical. It says so on Bush’s own documents. That never happened.

Bush’s go-to expert on his military record, Albert Lloyd, said a report wasn’t necessary because Bush’s commanders knew he had stopped flying to go to work in Alabama—proof only that the Air National Guard blew off the rules when it came to Bush.

See where it says NONE in the qualifications box? what does someone in the military get paid for when he has NONE in his qualifications box?

We don't need no steenkin' CBS documents.

The Pentagon has taken down george w. bush's military documents, but the Wayback Machine still has them. Just for starters, here's Part 5, page 6:

In accordance with paragraph 2-29m, AFM 35-13, failure to accomplish annual medical examination, 1st Lt (g)eorge (w). ush, (redacted), is suspended from flying status effective date 1 Aug 1972. Publish orders as directed in paragraph 2-28, AFM 35-13.
And in a monospaced font to boot.
