kpete's JournalNew documents detail alleged cheating & cover-up at Atlanta police academy
ATLANTA Channel 2 Action News has exclusively obtained documents that provide new details about a cheating investigation at the Atlanta Police Academy.
Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne learned that William Lyons, a training instructor turned whistleblower, was moved after he delivered documents about misconduct to state authorities.
Assistant police chief Shawn Jones told Winne that several people were transferred at the same time and that it's a frequent personnel move.
.......................
A police official tells Winne that Lyons took documents outlining cheating allegations to the state agency that certifies police officers in Georgia because he felt his superiors did not handle the incident properly.
The documents detail various cheating allegations among several cadets during police training - including tip-offs about a use of deadly force simulation.

Why is Freddie Gray dead?
?1430180529Why Millions of Americans Feel Like They Have No Power Over Their Lives - By Robert Reich
ECONOMY
We have fewer choices than ever, in just about every area of life.
/ Robert Reich's Blog April 27, 2015
.......................
Our complaints go nowhere. Often we cant even find a real person to complain to. Automated telephone menus go on interminably.
Finally, as voters we feel no one is listening because politicians, too, face less and less competition. Over 85 percent of congressional districts are considered safe for their incumbents in the upcoming 2016 election; only 3 percent are toss-ups.
In presidential elections, only a handful of states are now considered battlegrounds that could go either Democratic or Republican.
So, naturally, thats where the candidates campaign. Voters in most states wont see much of them. These voters votes are literally taken for granted.
Even in toss-up districts and battle-ground states, so much big money is flowing in that average voters feel disenfranchised.
In all these respects, powerlessness comes from a lack of meaningful choice. Big institutions dont have to be responsive to us because we cant penalize them by going to a competitor.
And we have no loud countervailing voice forcing them to listen.

"Suspect"??? - You Mean "Murder Victim"?
Freddie Gray was not a suspect. Everything about his encounter with police was wrong.

Man Disrupts Iowa Kindergarten Concert With 'English Only' Chant
...............
According to KCCI-TV, the incident occurred Thursday at a performing arts center in Perry, a city located roughly 40 miles northwest of Des Moines.
Concertgoer Juan Jose Ordonez Deleon provided a short video of the man's outburst, which Deleon calls a "hate crime," to ThePerryNews.com.
The 12-second video shows an unidentified man being escorted out of an auditorium by security personnel, while he repeatedly chants, "USA, English only. USA, English only," and shakes his fist in the air.
The man responsible for the disruption reportedly started bellowing the chant when a translator began repeating the event host's opening remarks in Spanish.

Ta-Nehisi Coates, “Nonviolence As Compliance“
Ta-Nehisi Coates, Nonviolence As ComplianceWhen nonviolence begins halfway through the war with the aggressor calling time out, it exposes itself as a ruse.
Rioting broke out on Monday in Baltimorean angry response to the death of Freddie Gray, a death my native city seems powerless to explain. Gray did not die mysteriously in some back alley but in the custody of the citys publicly appointed guardians of order. And yet the mayor of that city and the commissioner of that citys police still have no idea what happened. I suspect this is not because the mayor and police commissioner are bad people, but because the state of Maryland prioritizes the protection of police officers charged with abuse over the citizens who fall under its purview.
The citizens who live in West Baltimore, where the rioting began, intuitively understand this. I grew up across the street from Mondawmin Mall, where todays riots began. My mother was raised in the same housing project, Gilmor Homes, where Freddie Gray was killed. Everyone I knew who lived in that world regarded the police not with admiration and respect but with fear and caution. People write these feelings off as wholly irrational at their own peril, or their own leisure
.........
Now, tonight, I turn on the news and I see politicians calling for young people in Baltimore to remain peaceful and "nonviolent." These well-intended pleas strike me as the right answer to the wrong question. To understand the question, it's worth remembering what, specifically, happened to Freddie Gray. An officer made eye contact with Gray. Gray, for unknown reasons, ran. The officer and his colleagues then detained Gray. They found him in possession of a switchblade. They arrested him while he yelled in pain. And then, within an hour, his spine was mostly severed. A week later, he was dead. What specifically was the crime here? What particular threat did Freddie Gray pose? Why is mere eye contact and then running worthy of detention at the hands of the state? Why is Freddie Gray dead?
............
When nonviolence is preached as an attempt to evade the repercussions of political brutality, it betrays itself. When nonviolence begins halfway through the war with the aggressor calling time out, it exposes itself as a ruse. When nonviolence is preached by the representatives of the state, while the state doles out heaps of violence to its citizens, it reveals itself to be a con. And none of this can mean that rioting or violence is "correct" or "wise," any more than a forest fire can be "correct" or "wise." Wisdom isn't the point tonight. Disrespect is. In this case, disrespect for the hollow law and failed order that so regularly disrespects the rioters themselves.

Fox’s Shep Smith schools ‘The Five': Start covering Baltimore and stop trying to ‘indict’ it
Well, you know, Ive not been on the phone with them, Smith replied. But if we want to sit here and indict the civil rights community and indict the parents for what were watching right now, instead of for now, just covering what happens and then later talk about whose fault it is, because we dont know whose fault it is.
................
Weve got a major American city that has decades of turmoil within this neighborhood, Smith said, pointing at an image of the rioting and citing Fox reporter Doug McKelways accounts of residents saying police had made them feel powerless and hopeless.
Grays arrest and subsequent death, Smith argued, set the stage for those who would do harm to take advantage of the unrest.
Its what happened between all of that and today that has led to this, Smith said. There is no escaping that reality.
