Fox News Host: Covering Romney’s International Trip Feels Like Being In ‘A Modified Petting Zoo’

Journalists following the Romney campaign on the road have voiced some gripes with how they are being treated. They have been asked to submit quotes for approval, barred from asking questions on the rope line, and were temporarily barred from entering a fundraiser to which they’d been promised entry (after media outrage, the campaign reversed its decision).
Now, Fox News’ conservative host Greta Van Susteren has joined the chorus of journalists complaining about treatment from the Romney campaign. As she follows the campaign through Poland today, Van Susteren posted to her blog saying that the press has had no access to the candidate, and that she feels like she is in a petting zoo:
There has been no press access to Governor Romney since we landed in Poland. We (press) are in a holding pattern (I can’t help but feel a bit like the press is a modified petting zoo since we are trapped in a bus while Polish citizens take pictures of us.) Under the headline “Governor Romney won’t like this” we saw a big sign in the crowd for Rep Ron Paul.
The Romney campaign has granted some interviews to journalists, including Van Susteren herself. But he has been much more secretive than predecessors, including Obama who, when traveling abroad, held two press conferences, two appearances on Sunday talk shows, and several television and in-person interviews.

(CBS/AP) CENTENNIAL, Colo. - Colorado prosecutors filed 24 counts of murder charges Monday against James Eagan Holmes, the former neuroscience student accused of killing 12 people and injuring 58 others at an Aurora movie theater.
For each victim who died in the rampage, Holmes, 24, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one for allegedly intending to cause harm and another for acting with extreme indifference to human life, according to court documents.
Prosecutors also filed 116 counts of attempted murder against Holmes, who Aurora police said booby trapped his apartment with the intent to kill any officers responding there the night of the theater attack. Among the charges Monday was one count of possession of explosives and one count of committing a crime of violence.
Holmes appeared just as dazed as he did in his first court appearance last week, but at one point exchanged a few words with one of his attorneys in the packed courtroom. He was not expected to enter pleas on Monday. He ultimately could verbally enter a plea, or his attorneys could enter it for him.

Romney is such a slippery character that it is hard to know which of his announced foreign policies, if any, would actually be put into practice were he to become president.Would he deliberately provoke Vladimir Putin, a leader who, apart from being naturally bellicose, thinks that standing up to the United States helps maintain his popularity at home? And would he carry out his threat to "review" the strategic arms limitation treaty? That would be a deeply counter-productive course, but it is the one that Romney has said he would follow.
Would he impose additional sanctions on Iran and take his tough line on Tehran to the point of war, as John Bolton, one of his foreign policy advisers, has come close to saying might be necessary? An attack on Iran would have incalculable consequences, but one thing would be certain: most of them would be bad, or worse than bad.

Romney's decision to take his campaign abroad represents a reluctant tribute to Obama, whose tour of foreign capitals in July, 2008, showed Americans that he was a man who could reverse the decline in American prestige and influence under George Bush. After it, Americans could be in no doubt which candidate for their highest office the world overwhelmingly wanted. Romney can hardly expect a similar result. Obama has disappointed his global constituency, but there is a difference between a disappointment and the disaster toward which Romney's rhetoric points.

Former presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) brought out the rhetorical firepower Monday morning when asked about Dick Cheney's criticism of Sarah Palin, questioning the former vice president’s judgment on torture.
Cheney said Sunday that it was a “mistake” to put Palin on the Republican ticket in 2008 when she’d governed Alaska for less than two
“I’m always glad to get comments four years later,” McCain said sarcastically. “Look, I respect the vice-president. He and I had strong disagreements as to whether we should torture people or not. I don’t think we should have.”
“But,” McCain added, “the fact is that I’m proud of Sarah Palin, I’m proud of the job she did, I’m proud of the job she continues to do, and so everybody has their own views and I respect those views, but I’m proud of what we did.”

...........why would he stand on a terrace overlooking the "old" Old City and offer up our security to the crowd like Pilate offering a Barabbas for Jesus deal? What is so dear and holy to him that he is willing to trade our troops, our sailors, our flyers on the table to purchase it?
The presidency, of course. The dream of his father. The perfect picture of himself and his beloved wife waving from the portico of the White House, ultimate Prom King and Queen. He has stolen and destroyed and tax-dodged his way to wealth unimaginable but this final attaboy, this final "such a good son" has eluded him. And he must have it.
Like Israel, the actual job means nothing to him. He's made it clear that he intends to leave the policy and direction and management to others. He just wants that picture of him and Ann waving from that house.
But even a man of his wealth can't afford to simply pull out the AmEx black card and buy the office. For that he needs help from other obscenely wealthy men, men with their own agendas. And, since he cares nothing for actual policy, for a "vision thing," he's willing to let them exercise theirs, in exchange for their money (hello, Mr. Adelson, hello, Mssrs. Koch) or their credibility (hello, Mr. Cheney, hello, Mr. Bolton).

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on Sunday said he did not “view it as a threat” when President Barack Obama in April predicted his signature healthcare overhaul “will be upheld because it should be upheld” and that anything less would constitute “judicial activism” by the high court.
Scalia conceded in an appearance on "Fox News Sunday" that Obama’s forceful comments on a pending Supreme Court case were “unusual, but as I say I don’t criticize the president publicly. And he normally doesn’t criticize me.”
But when host Chris Wallace pressed, asking whether Scalia, who in June sided with a minority seeking to overturn the law, felt “any pressure as a result of that to vote a certain way,” Scalia laughed.
“No. What can he do to me? Or to any of us?” the justice responded. “We have life tenure. And we have it precisely so that we will not be influenced by politics, by threats from anybody.”
