WOW, This is BIG: Trump Foundation lacks the certification required for charities that solicit money

:large

By David A. Fahrenthold September 29 at 8:25 PM
Donald Trump’s charitable foundation — which has been sustained for years by donors outside the Trump family — has never obtained the certification that New York requires before charities can solicit money from the public, according to the state attorney general’s office.

Under the laws in New York, where the Donald J. Trump Foundation is based, any charity that solicits more than $25,000 per year from the public must obtain a special kind of registration beforehand. Charities as large as Trump’s must also submit to a rigorous annual audit that asks — among other things — whether the charity spent any money for the personal benefit of its officers.

If New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman (D) finds that Trump’s foundation raised money in violation of the law, he could order the charity to stop raising money immediately. With a court’s permission, Schneiderman could also force Trump to return money his foundation has already raised.

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment Thursday.

Clinton team accuses Trump of breaking Cuba embargo (& Kellyanne Conway CONFIRMS Story On-The View)

The Clinton campaign says Donald Trump “appears to have broken the law” following reports that he secretly paid $68,000 to pursue business in Castro-led Cuba despite US sanctions.

“Trump’s business with Cuba appears to have broken the law, flouted U.S. foreign policy, and is in complete contradiction to Trump’s own repeated, public statements that he had been offered opportunities to invest in Cuba but passed them up,” said Clinton’s senior policy adviser Jake Sullivan.

“This latest report shows once again that Trump will always put his own business interest ahead of the national interest - and has no trouble lying about it,” he added.

This morning’s report in Newsweek revealed that back in 1998 Trump’s hotel and resort business paid $68,000 to a consulting firm to go to Cuba and meet with officials and business leaders in preparation for possible investment opportunities if sanctions lifted. Newsweek reports that the money was later declared as charity in order to hide it as only US government-approved and humanitarian money was allowed to be spent because of the embargo on Cuba.

Trump himself has not addressed the allegations, but his surrogate Kelly Conway did not dispute the facts of the payment on The View today.

The women on The View aggressively questioned Kellyanne Conway today.
Here's how Conway responded to q's about potential Cuba investments:

Amazing
KellyannePolls goes on The View to defend Trump's dealing in Cuba, doesn't read the law,
and unknowingly confesses he committed a crime.

"THEY PAID MONEY, AS I UNDERSTAND IT IN 1998"

That's a bad answer. It's illegal to invest in Cuba and it was illegal to spend $$ in Cuba to look at investments. This confirms the story.

RUBIO 'DEEPLY CONCERNED' AT TRUMP'S CUBAN ALLEGATIONS

Florida Senator Marco Rubio may have endorsed Trump for president, but he’s not happy with Newsweek’s report that Trump conducted business in Fidel Castro-controlled Cuba, saying he’s “deeply concerned.”

“I hope the Trump campaign is gonna come forward and answer some questions about this because if what the article says is true -- and I’m not saying that it is, we don’t know with a hundred percent certainty -- I’d be deeply concerned about it, I would,” said Rubio in an interview on the ESPN/ABC “Capital Games” podcast.

“This is something they’re gonna have to give a response to. I mean, it was a violation of American law, if that’s how it happened,” said Rubio.

Rubio backs the current US embargo on Cuba.

NY Attorney General's Probe Of Trump Foundation Appears To Widen

The New York attorney general's investigation of the Donald J. Trump Foundation appears to have broadened to include new allegations of self-dealing by Trump that surfaced after the probe began, TPM has learned.

The town of Palm Beach, Florida, has provided documents to the New York Attorney General's Office as part of the probe, a lawyer for the town confirmed to TPM on Wednesday. The documents relate to a legal dispute that Trump settled with the town using foundation money. The details of the 2007 Palm Beach case were first reported by the Washington Post last week.

"The New York Attorney General’s Office did contact me in regard to this matter," John Randolph, the Palm Beach town attorney, told TPM Wednesday evening. "I just sent them the documents that I had previously sent to the Washington Post."

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman had announced earlier this month, before the Washington Post's reporting on the Palm Beach case, that his office had opened an investigation into Trump Foundation after it was reported that Trump had used foundation money to buy personal gifts for himself.

.........

The contact with Palm Beach by the Attorney General's Office suggests its probe had widened to include other alleged acts of self-dealing. The Attorney General's Office declined to comment Thursday.

Report: Trump Attended Intelligence Briefing Where Russia Was Linked To DNC Hack

.....with five weeks to go, the White House is, for now, letting events unfold. On one side, U.S. law-enforcement agencies are scrambling to uncover the extent of the Russian operation, counter it and harden the country’s election infrastructure. On the other, a murky network of Russian hackers and their associates is stepping up the pace of leaks of stolen documents designed to affect public opinion and give the impression that the election is vulnerable, including emails from the computers of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Meanwhile, the FBI alerted all 50 states to the danger in mid-August, and the states have delivered evidence of a “significant” number of new intrusions into their election systems that the bureau and their colleagues at the Department of Homeland Security “are still trying to understand,” a department official tells TIME.

All of which makes Donald Trump’s repeated insertion of himself into the U.S.-Russia story all the more startling. Trump has praised Putin during the campaign, and at the first presidential debate, on Sept. 26, he said it wasn’t clear the Russians were behind the DNC hack. But the U.S. intelligence community has “high confidence” that Russian intelligence services were in fact responsible, multiple intelligence and national security officials tell TIME. Trump was informed of that assessment during a recent classified intelligence briefing, a U.S. official familiar with the matter tells TIME. “I do not comment on information I receive in intelligence briefings, however, nobody knows with definitive certainty that this was in fact Russia,” Trump told TIME in a statement. “It may be, but it may also be China, another country or individual.”

“Based on briefings we have received, we have concluded that the Russian intelligence agencies are making a serious and concerted effort to influence the U.S. election,” they said. “At the least, this effort is intended to sow doubt about the security of our election.” Orders for Russian intelligence agencies to conduct electoral-influence operations, they added, could come only from very senior levels of government. “We call on (Russian) President (Vladimir) Putin to immediately order a halt to this activity.” The statement, though not endorsed publicly by the Administration, was cleared with the CIA.
