There are good people everywhere in the US.

Case in point: Taste Project in Fort Worth.

Taste Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit established simply to feed people one community at a time. One of every six Americans faces the reality that they may not be able to provide for their next meal. There are programs in place that help; however, in Tarrant County, 36 percent of this food insecure population live above the poverty level and receive no government help.

Our mission is to feed, educate, and serve our community so they may “…taste and see the Lord is good.” Psalm 34:8.

We believe everyone should have access to healthy nutritional food. Our vision is to see our community become the solution to the challenges our community faces as it relates to hunger.

Our first project, a non-profit restaurant, focuses on healthy, quality meals made from fresh ingredients. Our menu has no prices. This is a give and take concept. We ask guests to do one of the following:

1) pay what you can afford,

2) pay what you would typically pay, or

3) pay what you would typically pay, plus a little extra.

This place is wonderful. I have eaten there, and the food was wonderful. The place is immaculate. The food is fantastic. I have an friend who works there. They treat him great.

If you live in the area, or are visiting please stop in.

1200 South Main Street

To advocates of high speed passenger rail service.

How do you plan to acquire the land for dedicated high speed passenger rail service?

You cannot mix high-speed passenger trains wiith freight trains on the same track, UNLESS you are running multiple main lines (minimum 4-6) as in the Northeast corridor.

High speed passenger rail requires:

Heavier rail.
Different curve geometry.
Elimination of ALL crossings, which mean over/underpasses everywhere.

Do not get me wrong, I would love to see high-speed rail in places like the Texas Triangle, and other places, but it requires all new track, with all the problems that entail.

The RRs have no incentive to upgrade. They have abandoned thousands of miles of track, because it does not fit their current model of unit trains (no switching and 2 person crews). They ran off the small businesses and towns that they used to serve. Just like airlines have abandoned smaller cities. They do not want, nor will they accept passenger trains on their track without billions in subsidies.

Are you going to eminent domain hundreds of miles of land needed for new dedicated rail? How will that work with people?

How do you plan to aquire the land, deal with all the NIMBYs, environmental and State and local regulations? What about the takings clause?

I love the idea of high speed rail for didtances under 300 miles, BUT how can we do that?

I am not engaging in hyperbole or sarcasm, I am asking a serious questions.

So when did the US adopt Napoleonic Code of Justice for American males?

Because that is where we have come.

If a man is accused of sexual impropriety, he is automatically assumed to be guilty and is so judged in the court of public opinion. His life and reputation are destroyed, no matter if a there is ever a real trial and he is found not guilty.

If he's black, no matter his age, he's automatically guilty of something and just might get shot and killed by cops, because he "resisted" or ran or something. Or he's probably a hyper-sexual predator. Or just a "thug".

We USED to be the party that believed in the presumption of innocence, but not anymore.

Benjamin Franklin said “it is better a hundred guilty persons should escape than one innocent person should suffer”, but that certainly does not apply any more.

Finally, where do men go to get their reputations and good name restored, once they have judged guilty by the mob?

The Fort Worth Texas Public Library system has started lending Sprint cellular hotpots.

They have 200 units. You can check one out for 3 weeks, with no data cap. they are very popular, and there is a waiting list. You can not get one at the Downtown Library, rather they are available at outlying branches.

These are a godsend for me, since I only have 1GB a month data on my phone. .

In case anyone does not know what a Hotpsot is, it is A device for connecting to the Internet via a cellular network.

You can connect any Wi-Fi equipped device. Cell phone, desktop computer, laptop computer, etc.

They look like this.

Smaller than a deck of playing cards.

Anyone else's library doing this, or something similar?

Pope tells US Churches to "quit playing the victim."

What a smackdown!!!

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/religion/pope-francis-talks-tough-u-s-bishops-says-credibility-church-n954311

Pope Francis delivered a blunt message Thursday to his American bishops — stop “playing the victim or the scold” and do something about the “culture of abuse” that has resulted in a crisis of credibility for the U.S. Roman Catholic Church.

Francis’ letter, which was dated Tuesday, was delivered as the bishops were at a weeklong spiritual retreat at the Mundelein Seminary north of Chicago.

This is really an asskicking directed at Nolan.

Can someone explain why MBS had Jamal Khashoggi killed?

I thought MBS was a big economic and social reformer, yet he has Khashoggi killed in such a brutal fashion?

FDA approves drug for dogs scared by noise

For all who have furbabies who get scared by loud noises.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved an anti-epileptic drug, Pexion, to treat dogs freaked out by noises.

The drug is already approved for use in treating epilepsy. Known generically as imepitoin, the drug is similar to Valium and other benzodiazepines but works in a different way to treat noise aversion. Other seizure drugs, such as gabapentin, can also treat some types of anxiety.

The drug must be used cautiously. “The owners of three of the 90 dogs that received Pexion in the effectiveness trial also reported that their dogs became aggressive, including growling towards a young child and lack of restraint or self-control towards other dogs,” the FDA said.

The drug was originally developed to treat epilepsy in people but it had some troubling effects on metabolism so was never brought to market for use in humans.

DALLAS — A grand jury has started hearing evidence in the case of a former Dallas police officer who fatally shot her unarmed black neighbor in his own apartment after she said she mistook it for hers.

Daryl Washington, an attorney for the family of the slain man, said the grand jury began hearing the case Monday. Amber Guyger was arrested on a manslaughter charge after the Sept. 6 shooting of Botham Jean, a 26-year-old native of St. Lucia.

The grand jury will hear evidence and decide whether to indict Guyger. It could also decide on a more serious charge.

Jean's family has filed a lawsuit against Guyger and the city of Dallas in the shooting.

I sure as hell hope the Grand Jury indicts her for first degree murder.

I early voted in Ft. Worth.

I did not vote a straight ticket at the beginning of the ballot.

Instead I voted for every Democrat that was running, because I wanted to see just how many Republicans were running unopposed down ballot. It was appalling to see just how many there were. Nearly 20 of them.

I also carefully checked that I had voted correctly before casting my vote.
