7 Of The Biggest Fibs In Trump’s Speech Attacking 'World-Class Liar' Clinton

-snip-

The real estate mogul painted Clinton as a "world-class liar," yet many of the specifics in both his prepared and off-the-cuff remarks either stretched the truth or were just flat-out untrue. TPM catalogued some of the most blatantly false statements below:

The U.S. has the highest tax rate in the world

-snip-

Data on tax rates from the 34 industrialized nations in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development found that the U.S. was somewhere near the middle of the pack in 2014, trailing far behind countries such as Norway, New Zealand and Luxembourg.

Clinton has no plan to screen millions of new Syrian refugees

-snip-

While Clinton has said that she would call for the U.S. to accept 65,000 Syrian refugees—a 550 percent increase—she also said would “immediately to put into place the mechanisms for vetting the people that we would take in."

Hundreds of recent immigrants have been convicted of terror charges

-snip-

Politifact called this claim “murky,” noting that “most domestic terrorists were either born in the United States (like the Fort Hood, San Bernardino and Orlando shooters), or came here at a very young age (like the Boston Marathon bombers and Chattanooga shooter).”

While the New America Foundation, a Washington, DC think tank, found that 139 immigrants were implicated in jihad-inspired terrorist activity in the U.S., this number is far lower than the number of attacks carried out by anti-government activists, white supremacist and other non-Muslim extremists.

Trump was one of the first to criticize the Iraq War

-snip-

Clinton slept through a 3 a.m. phone call the night of the Benghazi attacks

-snip-

U.S. trade deficit with China soared during Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state

-snip-

Clinton accepted $58,000 in jewelry from the leaders of Brunei

Clinton Hits Back At Trump: He Attacks Me Because 'He Has No Answers'

Source: Talking Points Memo

At the close of her Wednesday rally in North Carolina, Hillary Clinton directly responded to remarks that Donald Trump made hours earlier in a speech focused on attacking her qualifications.

"I know Donald hates it when anyone points out how hollow his sales pitch really is," she said. "I guess my speech yesterday must have gotten under his skin, because right away he lashed out on Twitter with outlandish lies and conspiracy theories and he did the same in his speech today. Now, think about it. He's going after me personally because he has no answers on the substance."

She also made pointed reference to her Methodist faith, which Trump questioned in a meeting with evangelical leaders earlier this week.

"All he can do is try to distract us," Clinton said. "That's even why he's attacking my faith."

GOP Rep. Slams Dems' Sit-In On Gun Control: It's A 'Disgrace To Woolworth's'

One Republican congressman did not share in the spirit of a sit-in protest by House Democrats Wednesday on gun control legislation, tweeting that the demonstration was "a disgrace to Woolworth's."

Rep. Mark Walker (R-NC) took to Twitter while the Democrats sat and made speeches on the House floor, referencing the 1960 sit-in at the Woolworth's lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina, where four black students refused to leave after being denied service:

"Calling this a sit-in is a disgrace to Woolworth's," Walter wrote. "They sat-in for rights. Dems are 'sitting-in' to strip them away."

One of the measures that the Democrats are protesting to have passed would prevent those on the "no-fly list" from purchasing guns, a sore subject with many conservatives who feel it could allow the government to take away the Second Amendment rights of those placed on the list in error.

Landlord asks Sacramento hate church to leave, won’t renew lease

Hopes and prayers may not be enough to keep Sacramento’s Verity Baptist Church at their current location. While Pastor Roger Jimenez’s hateful diatribe praising the Orlando mass shooting may keep the faithful in their seats, it’s about to get the church thrown out of their building.

The fire and brimstone preacher’s sermon after the Pulse nightclub attack quickly went viral when he took to the pulpit mere hours as news broke about the tragedy to applaud the shooter and urge the government to execute LGBT people.

Now the hate church’s landlord is taking a stand, saying they will not tolerate “tenants who advocate hatred and the taking of innocent lives.” While the church’s lease doesn’t expire until 2017, he property management company and owner of the building, Harsch Investment Properties, has announced they will not be renewing the congregation’s lease.

They’ve also had a meeting with Jimenez to consider moving out; the company said they wouldn’t impose a penalty for breaking the lease. The company cannot legally evict the church over the controversy.

Alabama justice denies telling judges to block gay marriages (He did)

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore stands accused of urging defiance against the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage, but his lawyers argued Tuesday in a legal filing that the complaint is baseless and he never ordered state probate judges to refuse wedding licenses to gay couples.

The outspoken Republican jurist, who once lost his judicial post for disobeying a federal court order to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama Supreme Court building, is suspended from the bench. He faces possible removal from office again over a January administrative order he sent probate judges.

His order reminded judges that a 2015 Alabama Supreme Court injunction to refuse same-sex marriage licenses remained in “full force and effect” even though the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges effectively legalized gay marriage six months earlier.

Moore’s attorneys asked a judicial panel to dismiss the ethics complaint against him brought by the state’s Judicial Inquiry Commission. They wrote that Moore never told probate judges to refuse the licenses, but was correctly summarizing the status of a state injunction in answer to questions from probate judges.

Ex-Secret Service Agent’s Book Differs from His Testimony

“Gary Byrne, a former Secret Service agent who worked in Bill Clinton’s White House, tells a dramatic story in his upcoming book about how he personally helped a White House steward dispose of towels stained by semen and lipstick to protect the president from a sex scandal.”

“That story, as well as another Byrne tells about walking in on Bill Clinton making out with a TV journalist, is different from what he told investigators from Kenneth Starr’s Office of the Independent Counsel in 1998, a BuzzFeed News review of interviews, depositions, and grand jury testimony has found.”

Warren to campaign with Clinton in Ohio on Monday

Source: Reuters

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts will campaign with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in Ohio on Monday, Clinton’s campaign said.

“Clinton and Warren will discuss their shared commitment to building an America that is stronger together and an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top,” according to a campaign statement on Wednesday.

Warren, who recently endorsed Clinton, is an influential progressive within the Democratic Party and a potential vice presidential pick for Clinton.

Social media skewers Trump’s anti-Clinton speech: Nothing but ‘spittle inducing rage and lies’

GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump gave a scripted speech on Wednesday attacking Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Trump appeared to be reading off notes, but that didn’t stop Twitter users from crafting their own responses.

Some chimed in on his habit of making fantastical-sounding accusations against Clinton, like creating “totally open borders for the United States.”

It's clear from this speech that Trump is still spending his time trying to appeal to Republican voters. All conspiracy, no policy.

UPDATED: Dems stage sit-in on House floor to push for gun vote

Source: The Hill

Democrats are staging a sit-in on the House floor to push for action on gun control legislation.

More than two dozen Democrats were participating in the sit-in shortly before noon, with some lawmakers seated cross-legged on the floor. Democrats have been pressing for action on gun control before the House leaves at the end of this week for a planned recess.

Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), the veteran lawmaker who was brutally beaten by police in the civil rights march on Selma, Ala., began the sit-in with a speech on the floor where he was surrounded by dozens of his colleagues.

"We have turned deaf ears to the blood of the innocent and the deaths in our nation," he said. "Mr, Speaker, where is the heart of this body. Where is our soul?

UPDATE

House Republicans just turned the cameras off so you can’t see an anti-gun violence sit-in

Republicans shut down cameras inside the U.S. House of Representatives to prevent Americans from seeing a sit-in by the Democratic colleagues to force a vote on gun control.

Congressional Democrats led by Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), a civil rights veteran, took to the floor to shame their GOP colleagues into voting for new gun laws. Lewis and about 40 Democrats sat down, and Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) led a prayer on the House floor.

They briefly stood up for the Pledge of Allegiance but sat back down, chanting, “no bill, no break.”

Then Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) called a recess, saying the House was not in a state of order, and the cameras were shut off.

Speaker Paul Ryan Stays Mum On Trump's Attack On Clinton's Religion

-snip-

During a press conference held by House leaders, Ryan was asked if he was bothered by Trump casting doubts on Clinton's religious ties Tuesday during a meeting with evangelical leaders.

"We don't know anything about Hillary in terms of religion," Trump said Tuesday, "Now, she's been in the public eye for years and years, and yet ...there's nothing out there. There's like nothing out there. It's going to be an extension of Obama but it's going to be worse, because with Obama you had your guard up. With Hillary you don't, and it's going to be worse."

"Does it worry you, he's going after Hillary Clinton's religion," a reporter asked at Ryan's press conference Tuesday.

Ryan grinned, clearly a bit tired of the Trump questions.

"Next question," Ryan said.
