Poll: More Think U.S. Does Too Little Abroad

A new Pew Research/USA Today finds a large majority of Americans think the world is a more dangerous place than it was several years ago.

"Republicans, Democrats and independents all are more likely to say the U.S. does too little to solve world problems, but the shift among Republicans has been striking. Last fall, 52% of Republicans said the U.S. does too much to help solve global problems, while just 18% said it does too little. Today, 46% of Republicans think the U.S. does too little to solve global problems, while 37% say it does too much."

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -
Jenny Sanford is demanding her ex-husband, Congressman Mark Sanford undergo psychiatric evaluations and complete both an anger management program and a parenting program as part of their ongoing divorce proceedings.

-snip-

In the complaint, Jenny Sanford also says there has been a substantial change of circumstances that a visitation schedule should be put in place that limits Mark Sanford's visitation with their youngest son, who is now 16.

The complaint also seeks to mutually restrain both parties from exposing the teen "overnight to a member of the opposite sex not related to the Plaintiff or Defendant through blood or marriage who could reasonably be construed as a paramour," making negative comments about the other parent or family in the teen's presence or allowing any third parties to do so; or discussing any aspect of the case with or in the presence of the teen unless it is within a "therapeutic environment" as recommended by a professional.

The complaint also demands that both parties be prevented from "consuming or being under the influence of illegal or unprescribed prescription drugs or excessive amounts of alcohol" in the presence of or while responsible for the teen's care.

The last honest conservative: Meet the brilliant Ronald Reagan appointee making Antonin Scalia’s lif

The last honest conservative: Meet the brilliant Ronald Reagan appointee making Antonin Scalia’s life very difficult

On three high-profile cases bound for the Supreme Court, Judge Richard Posner has seen through right-wing blather

ERIC J. SEGALL

Judge Richard Posner has written nearly 40 books, hundreds of articles and thousands of judicial opinions. He is, by far, the most cited legal scholar alive today (probably ever). Nominated by Ronald Reagan, he sits on the United States Court of Appeals, just below the Supreme Court. He has publicly feuded with Justice Antonin Scalia over how judges actually decide, and should decide, cases. And, over the last year, he has spoken truth to power in three high-profile cases all likely to be decided by the Supreme Court.

On issues of abortion, same-sex marriage and religious objections to Obamacare, Posner said exactly what needed to be said with honest, unequivocal and, to some perhaps, startling clarity.

The University of Notre Dame didn’t want to provide certain forms of required contraception to its students and employees so it went to court seeking a religious exemption. The bizarre thing about the case is Notre Dame was already exempt. What it wanted was not to fill out the form that would have guaranteed the university an exemption. Notre Dame claimed, to most people’s disbelief, that filling out the short form and asking for the exemption was itself a substantial burden on its religious exercise.

Posner would have none of it. At the oral argument, he took a harsh tone with the lawyer for Notre Dame who refused again and again to answer directly how filling out a piece of paper could possibly be a “substantial burden on religion.” Becoming more and more frustrated, Posner eventually asked the lawyer to “stop babbling,” and “stop fencing,” eventually warning him that “if you don’t cooperate with me, I’m not going to let you continue your argument.” The judge’s frustration stemmed from his perception that Notre Dame’s claims had no merit, and the lawyer was simply bobbing and weaving.

Fox Guest: Feminists Are 'Cave Women' Keeping Us In The Stone Age

By AHIZA GARCIA Published SEPTEMBER 2, 2014, 12:12 PM EDT

The hosts of the web show "PolitiChicks" appeared on Tuesday's edition of "Fox & Friends" to discuss what they described as the dangers of the modern feminist movement.

"PolitiChicks" Editor-in-Chief Ann-Marie Murrell launched the debate, saying that feminists are actually "sexualists" because feminism "has nothing to do with empowering women anymore. We earned the right to vote. We have equality in the workplace. If we don't, we can fight that on a one-on-one basis."

Later in the conversation, PolitiChicks co-host Gina Loudon echoed the view.

"What the feminist movement has successfully done, is really, as Ann-Marie puts it, sexualized women instead of feminizing women," Loudon said. "So, we are here with a new brand of feminism, saying drop the shackles of the old feminism. It’s time for women who really want to be women, who want to be feminine, who want to be what God designed them to be."

Eric Cantor Gets Three Million Reasons to Go to Wall Street

Update

According to Business Insider, Cantor will be receiving a pay package in the upwards of $3 million:

So he'll have a base salary of $400,000 for this year and next. Add in $1.4 million in signing bonuses this year, and $1.6 million in incentive compensation next year, and Cantor is looking at a cool $3.4 million.

Original Post

Just weeks after being rejected by voters, former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor has reportedly landed a job at the investment firm Moelis & Co. Cantor will join the investment bank as a "vice chairman and board member at the firm, effective this week," according to the Wall Street Journal.

The hire was announced on Labor Day joint interview with Cantor and Moelis & Co. founder Ken Moelis. Unsurprisingly, there was not a ton of diversity in the tone of the responses to Cantor's new gig:

Washington Post names new publisher

Source: Washington Post

Post owner Jeff Bezos is replacing publisher Katharine Weymouth with Frederick J. Ryan, Jr., a former Reagan administration official who was part of the founding leadership team of news organization Politico, the company announced Tuesday.

The departure of Weymouth, 48, ends eight decades of Graham family leadership of the Post, which her great-grandfather bought in 1933.
