are too slow for most people (Americans, yes, but not only Americans.) That's why "due process" had to be written into the Constitution.

And, of course, so is the right to a speedy trial - which motivates justice workers not to arrest until they have all the evidence needed to convict. The defense can spin it out basically as long as they want, but the prosecution can't. They have to be ready.
