(16,890 posts)I've seen videos of Trumpers saying the crazy talk is "just bluster," "he doesn't really mean it," or (my favorite) "you have to take him with a grain of salt."
I have absolutely no doubt that a certain segment of his base hears the dog whistles loud and clear (January 6 is proof of that), but I think a good chunk of his base are in denial. That latter group will be shocked (shocked, I tell you) by any violence that breaks out when he loses the election.
(Yes, I said "when he loses." I refuse to even entertain the notion of him winning, because I'd like to, you know, not lose my mind between now and November. I know that it's not impossible that the worst could happen, but I prefer not to let myself dwell on that.)
Anyway, some of his followers will no doubt do violent things in response to a loss, but the country will be ready for them this time, and Trumpty Dumpty won't be squatting in the White House like an evil troll, stacking the deck in his followers' favor. For that reason, I'm not losing much sleep over what the MAGA crowd will do when he loses, but I would lose a TON of sleep if I let myself really think about what his winning would mean.
