WASHINGTON — Just now, Arizona Democratic Senator Eva Burch announced her plans to utilize reproductive care on the Arizona Senate floor.

Citing her heartbreaking story of her pregnancy becoming unviable, Senator Burch said the following during her floor speech:

“I don’t think people should have to justify their abortions, but I’m choosing to talk about why I made this decision because I want us to be able to have meaningful conversations about the reality of how the work we do in this body impacts people in the real world…All that the legislature has done is to nurture distrust and confusion in the relationship between patients and providers.”

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee National Press Secretary Sam Paisley issued the following statement:

“Arizona Senator Eva Burch sharing her decision to get an abortion is the epitome of courage. No woman should have to go through the emotional and physical hurdles she described – Arizona Republicans have passed unnecessary burdens on abortion care that put women in danger. Senator Burch’s story is powerful, but it is sadly not unique — patients across Arizona have to jump through hoops to get the care they need. There are very real, and sometimes even deadly, consequences to the attacks on reproductive freedom that Republicans across the country have launched.
