83. I don't think it was as much about "conscience" as it was about revealing the shame she now feels about it.

News people were musing and questioning why she would cry, and I would just posit that she had to admit to being complicit in his mendacity. She actually reminds me of women who remain in an abusive relationship because they view it as a transactional decision (i.e., there/was a quid pro quo relationship).
