… and those pups would have a new home without question.

Noem’s very young “failed” hunting dog would also have had a home with someone else, as a companion for rambunctious children, in the chickenless suburbs.

As for the stinky billy-goat, what was she doing with him the first place unless she had him for a stud? If her children had gotten him as a cute little kid, why didn’t she have him neutered straight off? For a rootin’ tootin’ gun totin’ rural character, this woman sure is stupid. (See my source below)

By the numbers, the rural way of life is dying — few in the country are still there. But millions upon millions who will never brand a calf or milk a cow or bust sod romanticize the way of life all to bits, especially the hunting in the woods part. This is the Real America, by gum.

Noem has made what I hope is a fatal mistake to her public career. She’s sadistic, uncaring, not self-aware, and not aware of life in this nation outside her own cultural bubble. She really didn’t know this behavior and her boastful retelling would not play well? Gods, what that says about her.

Cricket deserves to be reborn in love and kindness and understanding.

My source: The Homesteader’s Handbook to Raising Small Livestock by Jerome Belanger, 1974. Also my friend whose parents kept a couple of goats, including a male who would put his head between his legs so he could piss on his own head.

The mid ‘70s were a time of financial anxiety — many of us thought the whole world economy was about to collapse. There were a fair number who prepared to go back to the land if necessary — my response was to buy this book and study up. It was a great read, I learned a lot, thought a lot, and still have it on my shelves.
