(33,688 posts)13. It is one of history's weirder ironies that the only muslim majority countries
where women ever enjoyed anything close to equality under the law, as is the western norm, were both brutal but purely secular dictatorships - Saddam's Iraq and the Shah's Iran.
Which says something pretty awful about islam and islamism.
