(41,890 posts)I talked with an elderly woman recently who told me their family lost everything when ordered to report to the Internment Camps. They had five days to get their stuff in order, basically selling everything they had and leaving stuff behind so others might have it.. Their houses taken, and than only bring what they could carry. They were sent to a Race track, and lived in horses barns for several days before shipping out to the unknown which turned out to be the Manzanar Internment Camp.,
Some fancy name for that sign, ne?
She told me when many were let go at the end, most of them didn't want to return to San Francisco and went on to live in San Jose or Los Angeles, the memory of having all their stuff taken, and their homes taken from them, brought back too much sorrow.
