The use of walls
bans on travel beyond ordinary immigration law
censorship of media
use of party media
gulags and internment camps
surveillance of the general populace
political officers and apparatchiks installed into government agencies to spy
rampant nepotism, cronyism and corruption
militarism
attacks on the academicians and science
scapegoating up to and including grand conspiracies.
