go so far as to say it's no longer done, or that it's wrong. As long as it's consistent through a document and doesn't impair readability, I'd call it writer's choice...

My 31 yr old daughter told me it is now 1. Used to be 2. Doesn't look right with 1, though!

Two. That's how I learned to type (thank you Mrs. Hunter), but modern publishing says one.
