8. Actually there are some Palms here in Vancouver too...

I've seen the odd one in peoples gardens. They don't love the cold but it doesn't get cold enough to kill most of them. I'm sure it's only certain species that can grow here. In fact you can grow banana "trees" here too, they don't fruit but I've seen them in a few places. We only get a few days of below zero weather per year here. Vancouver and Victoria have about the same annual temperatures.
