Hosting options for this group [View all]

This discussion thread was locked by Renew Deal (a host of the Religion group).

With the retirement of a host, there is an opportunity to revisit how we want this group handled. Existing hosts have said that given the 5-hides-and-you're-in-timeout rule, the only task we need hosts for is to lock threads against the SOP. This is of course non-binding and meaningless, but let's vote:

2 votes, 0 passes | Time left: Poll closed
Keep the current arrangement - lead (neutral) host, 2 each of hosts sympathetic to believer and nonbeliever groups.
1 (50%)
Just one neutral host (currently Renew Deal).
0 (0%)
Lead neutral host plus a to-be-specified number of hosts that are not regular participants in the group. They could be PMed to deal with non-SOP threads (a fairly rare occurrence).
1 (50%)
Other. (Please specify.)

Hosting by non-participants is a bad idea IMO: if we need hosts, we need hosts struggle4progress Apr 2014 #1
There is not complete host agreement on the 5-hides rules as the only possible reason struggle4progress Apr 2014 #2
To date, hosts have only locked three OP, all for violation of the SoP, but again struggle4progress Apr 2014 #3
Please edit your one response to include other items. trotsky Apr 2014 #4
They are three different issues, so IMO you will have a cleaner and better organized thread struggle4progress Apr 2014 #6
I disagree and given your clear conflict of interest as a current host... trotsky Apr 2014 #7

If there had been a history of hosts rrneck Apr 2014 #11
It seems to be such a contentious issue, trotsky Apr 2014 #12
Surely the contention cannot be the result of any host action since there has been none. rrneck Apr 2014 #13
Oh, I didn't say it was. trotsky Apr 2014 #14
Well, the hosts also block members although with the "five hide timeout" that's pretty unlikely. rrneck Apr 2014 #16
Correct, and since the "five hide timeout" was instituted, it was agreed by the hosts... trotsky Apr 2014 #21

Thank you for your opinion as someone with a vested interest in the status quo. n/t trotsky Apr 2014 #25
I'm not sure whether you think that I'm somehow lining my pockets by embezzling from DU, struggle4progress Apr 2014 #26
Your overreaction to my simple observation is noted. n/t trotsky Apr 2014 #27
