Death.

More realistically, you can count on not one piece of Kerry-favored legislation making it out of committee.

12. What difference would it make?
They'd squash anything he proposed either way.

I don't see what they're so afraid of in voting "NO" (even if it doesn't mean much)...either we (D) are going to get pissed on (against) or stepped on (in favor of) by *co (and his minions).

24. Me too....I just wish he had shown the same kind of sticking to his guns
regarding the election....

He and Boxer get big kudos on this one...it will be interesting to see which of the Senate confirms Condi in the full vote...I hope that the Dems (and Republicans with any integrity) realize that Condi Rice is a disaster.

What is incredible to me, is that if any other PERSON (male or female, regardless of race) had the kind of failed and questionable record that Condi Rice has, in a DEMOCRATIC administration (ie. Clinton) that person not only would have been having demands made for firing them, there would have been impeachment proceedings against the administration.

How someone like her can even be considered is shocking to me....

PS: Barack Obama voted for her? Guess that must have been the "Martin Luther King Pass" for her...sad....I actually expected him of all people to be color blind....(just got finished reading Obama's book)....

34. Obama is a freshman
Probably felt he needed to make his case in some other battles before he starts to go after the big dogs.

Might be making excuses for him too...:eyes:

Most people who support her say she is a really smart woman and it's great to see a woman of color at such a high level in the government. They are right. That's great...if only she actually knew what she was doing! She is very smart, but in general, you don't put a really smart professor of chemistry in a lecture hall to talk about poetry. They have to be smart in the field of their knowledge. Rice is not in that field.

She is utterly horrible in this position and basically just says whatever this Admin wants. She failed to protect us from harm on 9/11 knowing full well that an attack was imminent. She is not suited for this job either!

I know he said yes, but he did say that he was seriously disappointed in her performance at the hearing and as Security Advisor, but would cut them slack out of hope and as a gesture fo good will. Which I can respect, buit boy did he register his complaints so that it could be public record!

Yay for Boxer and Kerry!

31. Amen...
... but then we'd have to replace two Democratic senators here in California. We need to get a new Democratic Senator candidate to beat out Feinstein in the primaries. She's just not doing the job like Boxer has been doing lately to really represent the citizens and not the DLC "sponsors". Now in some ways I wish she'd run in the Gubernatorial recall election. Then we could have already had someone new in the Senate, though she would have been the person appointing her replacement until 2006.

32. Biden is an idiot
All these gracious gestures and cutting of slack is what is wrong with the Democrats. They should just stick together and vote their conscience. We will see the same with Gonzales. He authored torture and still doesn't really back away from it with any gusto, yet the wusses want to be gracious and give the pres his choices. Just like they did with Ashcroft. (I do think Gonzales won't be as horrid as the Crisco Kid, but still, there is the torture to consider!)

I think Kerry will be voting more courageously from now on. He has been to hell and back trying to bend to what he thinks people want. He has nothing to lose anymore. He will never be the Dem candidate again. I wish these guys wiould grow a spine before they run.

37. That Is One of the Biggest Deficits in the Democratic Party Right Now
We give quarter, we extend olive branches, we give peace offerings. We try to reach across the aisle and make compromises and concessions.

In return, the Republicans do none of this. They demand that everything is their way or the highway. Either you're with us or against us. They will not compromise and see no reason to.

As a result, they get their way just about every single time. And Democrats, insanely, continue to give ground to the Republicans even though all evidence and experience shows that it's futile and even counter-productive.

43. Robert Frost Said "A Liberal is a Man Too Broad-Minded to ...
take his own side in a quarrel."

I hate to liken today's political climate to a war, but the analogy is somewhat fitting. It's like we're in a war, and the enemy is saying, "We will not rest until all of you are dead and we have all your land!" and our response has been "Well, you certainly have a valid point there. How about if we kill off half our population and give you 70% of our land? Would that be a fair compromise?"

See, the problem is that when we try to make efforts to compromise with Republicans on certain issues, we are basically telling them that they have valid points on those issues and that we agree with them. But when they refuse to do the same, we think it will look as though they are being unreasonable, but in reality people figure, "Hey, the Democrats agree that the Republican position is reasonable, and the Republicans do not think that the Democratic position is reasonable, therefore the Republican position is probably the more reasonable of the two."

It would be nice to be in a political climate where that was not the case, because I do think that if both sides could compromise and work together that we could have solutions to problems that would better serve all of the people of this country.

29. Rice Wins Backing for Senate Confirmation
WASHINGTON — The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted today to confirm Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state after two days of hearings in which she faced strenuous Democratic assaults on the Bush administration's handling of Iraq.

Pending approval by the full Senate, Rice would be the first black woman to hold the job. She was confirmed by a 16-2 vote with Democrats John Kerry of Massachusetts and Barbara Boxer of California voting no.

47. War Crimes.........
http://www.ou.edu/oupd/selfarr2.htm

According to this it is our responsibility to arrest them! I have a feeling they won't arrest themselves. (grin)

"If you witness a crime, it is your civic duty to report the crime to the police.
When a crime is committed, you have the right and responsibility to make a "Citizen's Arrest".
Thus, if YOU commit a crime, it would be extremely helpful (and provide a savings of tax dollars) for you to perform a Citizen's Self-Arrest."

Can't you just visulize George at his inagural speach saying; "I am under arrest. I have a right to remain silent. Anything I say can and will be used against me in a court of law. I have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him/her present with me while I question myself. If I cannot afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to represent me, if I wish one, before I question myself. If I decide to make a statement, I may stop at any time."
