WASHINGTON - A Metrorail stop on the Yellow Line has closed after a shooting Thursday evening.

The Pentagon Metro station has been closed due to a shooting outside the station. Trains are no longer stopping at the station.

Arlington Country Fire and Rescue says three people have been transported to a local hospital. There has been no word on their condition.

Metro is in the process of coordinating shuttle buses around the station.

Few details yet.

This says that possibly the three who were shot are two Pentagon police officers and the shooting suspect.

4. Could also be estranged family members or a fired worker.
A place that crowded, you could hit more than the person you're aiming at, especially if you're pissed or in an equally altered state or if someone tries to intervien.
Not sure that gang-bangers would be at the Pentagon station; the Navy Yard or any of the other downtown stations more east or north, maybe.

We'll find out.

39. Facebook link gone, Amazon still live
If it is the same guy he is from Austin (didn't something having to do with the federal government just happen there, or is that too many "news" cycles ago) and the books shown on his "wish list" look a lot like books on my shelf.

So, if he is a nutter (vs estranged lover) he may a left-wing rather than a right-wing nut. Certainly, if there is any chance, he will be held up by MSM as such.

44. I think he was a Libertarian
This sounds like something a right wing nut would say -

snip - "Communist and socialist governments that abolished or disregarded private property," said Bedell in the recording, "created poverty, repression and murder on a truly enormous scale." But, he continued, "Even in the United States, however, there has been a continual erosion of protection of private property justified by the belief that government is an efficient instrument for the positive direction of society."

Bedell added: "Governments lack the profit and loss incentives that individuals and private organizations must use..."

And he warned: "When governments are able to confiscate the resources of their citizens to fund schemes that need only be justified by lies and deception enormous disasters can result."

Bedell also denounced the monetary system, a frequent bete noir of anti-government extremists. "When the government can control how private property is used," he said, "and especially when the government controls the monetary system that is use to exchange private property, the government has the mechanisms and the motivation to control individuals to the smallest detail."

14. Now is the time to sell more guns in virginia - no limits!!
At least that is how the Republican legislators and the new governor think. The Senate squashed them on this issue today for another year.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/04/AR2010030404372.html

A Virginia Senate panel designed to eliminate House gun rights proposals went about its work efficiently Thursday, killing an attempted repeal of the state's 17-year-old ban on buying more than one handgun a month and several other bills.

2 Pentagon police officers shot

By CHRISTINE SIMMONS
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A gunman coolly drew a weapon from his pocket and opened fire at the teeming subway entrance to the Pentagon complex Thursday evening, wounding two police officers before being shot and critically wounded, officials said.

Authorities said all three were taken to a hospital. Richard Keevill, chief of Pentagon police, said the two officers suffered grazing wounds that were not life-threatening.

The suspect, believed to be a U.S. citizen, walked up to a security checkpoint at the Pentagon in an apparent attempt to get inside the Defense Department headquarters, at about 6:40 p.m. "He just reached in his pocket, pulled out a gun and started shooting," Keevill said. "He walked up very cool. He had no real emotion on his face." The Pentagon officers returned fire with semiautomatic weapons.

Of the suspect, the chief said, "His injury is pretty critical."

2nd person scrutinized in Pentagon subway shooting

By DEVLIN BARRETT and MATT APUZZO
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Law enforcement officials say they've got one person in custody and are investigating whether a second was involved in a shooting at Pentagon subway entrance

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still unfolding.

They say there's no immediate signs of terrorism but, with information coming in quickly, they haven't ruled anything out.

Two police officers were shot and critically wounded in the shooting.

Pentagon shooter apparently doubted 9/11 facts in Web posting
Associated Press
March 5, 2010

Washington - The gunman in the Pentagon shootings may have harbored resentment for the military and had doubts about the facts behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

John Patrick Bedell, 36, died after exchanging gunfire with two police officers, both of whom were wounded.

In an Internet posting, a user named JPatrickBedell wrote that he was determined to see justice for the 1991 death of Marine Col. James Sabow in Orange County, which was ruled a suicide but has long been the source of coverup theories. The writer said the case would be a step toward revealing the truth behind the 9/11 "demolitions."

The same posting railed against the government's enforcement of marijuana laws and included links to the author's 2006 court case in Orange County for cultivating marijuana and resisting a police officer.

45. I dunno if you've noticed,
But our zero-tolerance ban it all drug war has done nothing but open up a humongous, extremely lucrative black market that has swelled criminal gangs in this country to a level not seen since prohibition.

I think you're right that was can do the same thing to guns that we have done to drugs- create a vast criminal black market over which we have no control.

40. Another crazy with a gun

This incident however stands in sharp contrast to all the school mass shootings where several individuals were killed, and everyone but the crazy criminal were unarmed.

In this case there were sane individuals present with firearms. They were able to eliminate the threat posed by the crazy person in under one minute. The only person who died was the crazy criminal. Everyone else was treated and released by the next morning.
