Fort Bragg STANDS UP for Peace: BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!

On March 19, 2005, the “Veterans for Peace” sponsored a STAND UP FOR PEACE March and Rally near the gates of Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, NC. The March slowly moved through the streets of the military town of Fayetteville.

The Veterans for Peace carried this banner:
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS
BRING THEM HOME

Marching at the front were our returning Troops from the Iraq war, with their banner “Iraq Veterans Against the War”. Many Military Families, relatives who have lost loved ones, Veterans and supportive patriotic American Citizens joined the Pro-Peace March and Rally. They carried symbolic coffins through town, a giant PEACE dove, and many colorful signs and banners demanding BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW.

Following the Pro-Peace March, there was a large Rally at a local park, close to the gates of Fort Bragg. The Rally features prominent speakers demanding BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW. Many speakers were war Veterans, families of Veterans, and those who lost loved ones in Iraq.

Tom Laney, who served in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1960 to 1963, wrote this Letter to the Editor in the Fayetteville Observer:
“We are, all of us, losing our work and the ranks of Americans in poverty swell to more than 40 million. This while militarism and war profiteering grow to obscene levels.”

The greatest loss to America was emphasized by 90 flag-draped symbolic coffins carried through the streets of Fayetteville, and displayed on a hill during the Rally.
