Why are the Plasmatics not discussed more in the DU Lounge

Here was one of the more entertaining punk groups out there. Wendy O. Williams knew how to entertain the crowds. I can't believe no one has ever started a thread about her before this!

2. WOW was more than just a great performer
she spent most of her post-plasmatic life rehabilitating wildlife and other pro-animal causes.

3. Such a sad story, though....
28 May 1949 - Wendy Orlean Williams born, Rochester NY.
1978 --The Plasmastics formed, New York City.
1979 --Stars in a porno film, Candy Goes to Hollywood!. The ping-pong ball scene is sensational, really showing off Wendy's muscular control over her no-no place.
Apr 1981 --Acquitted of obscenity (for performing wearing only shaving cream.)
Nov 1981 --Beat a photographer, sentenced to one year probation.
1982 --Covered Tammy Wynette's Stand By Your Man with Lemmy from Motorehead.
1985 --Nominated for a Grammy, Best Female Rock Vocal.
22 Aug 1986 --Film, Reform School Girls.
18 Jan 1991 --Arrested for onstage obscenity, Milwaukee WI.
6 Apr 1998 --Shoots herself in the head outside in the woods of her home, Storrs CT.

4. I've mentioned her here before.
I took a picture in Greenwich Village and I was pretty sure it was she. I was too careful, though. If I'd let her see me, she would have beat me up and then paid for my graduate degree. I just found the negative of the print (which was stolen from me). I may get a new print and if it turns out to be our WOW I'll sure as hell post it.

Maybe people are still sore about the destroyed televisions. We take those pretty seriously here in the US, after all.

6. The Plasmatics are on this DVD...
SCTV vol. 2 (a great cult tv show from the early 80's).
It was very controversial at the time because of Wendy's attire.
It's on a segment called the "Fishing Musician" with John Candy as host Gil Fisher. The Plasmatics perform "Doom Song" and she destroyed the set.
It's a highlight of that set.
The commentary on the DVD is by Catherine O'Hara and Andrea Martin. They talk about how sweet Wendy was in reality.

7. I saw the show at the Palladium
where they blew up their first car on stage. Then Wendy shot down a bank of lights with a machine gun. It fell to the stage in flames right next to Richie. The place went black. When the lights came back on a few minutes later, there were still 2 fans in the front row having a tug-o-war over the neck of the guitar she cut up with a chainsaw. Now that's entertainment!

8. Since when did using a chain saw become "entertainment?"
They weren't very good.

9. It had a chilling effect
when the thread I posted about masturbating to "Butcher Baby" was locked.
