7. Ha! You can have Australia!
I have a fool proof blueprint:

I'll take South America and then invade Africa. After taking Africa, North America will be next. It won't be easy but it will be easier than trying to capture Asia from Australia.

After securing North America, I will then plant massive armies in Iceland and Kamchatka to keep anyone from accumulating armies by holding either Europe or Asia. At this point I will be gaining armies at a 5:1 rate over puny Australia.

I will remember to take a territory and fall back each turn for a card, sit back and watch my armies accumulate.

When the time is right (I like about a five to one advantage), I will take Europe and plant another massive army in the Ukraine. And I won't let anyone put the hurt on the Ukraine!

After taking the Middle East, I will have only three territories to defend: Ukraine, Middle East, and Kamchatka. At this point, I will hae a 9:1 resource advantage over poor Australia.

My capital will remain in SA cause that's my fallback continent. and I like Rio.

Wait some more turns before taking Asia at which point someone usually kicks over the table.

8. nope, doesn't work...
cause it all starts, with Australia...easy to conquer, only one way in, and branch out...:) south america is also a decent place to start out, only gotta worry about africa, and central american coming down...starting in europe, or asia, is suicide!..."never start a land war in asia!"...:)

13. South America first, if possible
Australia has only one way in or out but breaking out into Asia is hard. Easier to get into North America or africa from South America and more importantly, keep the enemy from gaining control of those continents.

Very nice shareware version of Risk here:

14. I never liked america in risk
you got to protect alaska, than the border with central america, and doesn't europe have a direct shot, at america also? Three fronts...SA has two, which is better...Aus, has 1...but, I usually lock up aus, and then work hard to get SA...Europe/America/Asia are brutal to try and keep...

15. I downloaded that game
and it plays pretty well. After getting kicked a couple of times, I managed to win (in 22 moves with the game set to very clever) starting in Australia. I secured Aus, then swept through Asia while everyone else was fighting over Africa, N and S America. I defended all that territory on just three fronts: Kanchatka, Ukraine and the Mid East. Swept through Europe knocking a player out and getting his cards. Few turns later I invaded North America, knocking another player out. Then S. America a few turns later and started to put the squeeze on Africa. It was over a few turns later. The key was to sweep Asia early while everyone else was still dicking around.

That game is shockingly close to real life in a lot of ways.

12. Funny you should mention kicking over a table.
I'm part scandanivian, and my friend Waldo is 100% scandinavian, and we were fighting over scandanvia, in Risk...he had two armies there, and I sent in an army of 20(i had good control of europe), and I lost all of my guys, to two little damn armies! I think, it was a deserving, kick the game table over event...:)

6. Indoor camping.
All the comforts of home, roasting marshmallows by candlelight (using a toothpick), a "tent" set up with a blanket with pillows on the floor and some cool campfire music (great if you play guitar), tell ghost stories, and watch some good old 50's horror movies. The perfect evening, unless your kid is easily scared, but you could alter the scary parts to something less scary.

10. Nuclear War
No, seriously. Friends of mine in college (mid-'80s) had a card game called Nuclear War.

For added verisimilitude, be sure to keep CNN droning on in the background...
