Today's College Football Thread
There is only one game between Top 25 teams today: Miami vs. Virginia Tech. But there are some other potentially good games as well--most are conference games (North Carolina at Georgia Tech, Cal at Oregon, Iowa at Penn State), but there are some interesting non-conference games as well (TCU at Clemson, Arizona State at Georgia, Texas Tech at Houston).

My team has a bye week before next week's big matchup against Miami :woohoo:

What games are you looking forward to today?

1. It's judgment day today
Arizona St after 2 games has the #1 defense based on yardage allowed. Now take that information and throw it away because it was against Idaho St and UL Monroe. Their defense looks really impressive and I think they will be great. Now it's up to the quarterback so it's important to develop a running game. One thing about the first game was there was a lot of penalties but they lowered the number in the second game so it will be something to watch in this game.

This game against Georgia is where most people is going to find about my team and this ASU team has the best defense I've seen in years. Hopefully they don't let me down but I'm nervous. :scared:

5. good luck, JonLP24!
It'll be the first chance to see ASU this year, so I'm looking forward to seeing that linebacker in action :hi:

It'll be a tough game, but if they win at Georgia you'll know you're in for a great year :toast:

and go with a linebacker that is more experienced in coverage so you may not see him on every down but you will see him.

Thanks and good luck to your team. :toast:

3. how is it that the Big 10 Network is so often unavailable in Big 10 country?
We had that situation here a couple of years ago as well. Even living in Champaign, where one of the Big 10 schools is located, I couldn't get the Big 10 network :wtf:

They've remedied that situation here, at least, but it's a drag that you don't get your game :(

Looks like Minnesota is up 14-10 at halftime.

Surprised they did that considering it was Forcier who threw the winning TD against Notre Dame but it worked. Michigan 21-20 over Indiana.

19. Refs are a little sloppy as well
They didn't call an intentional grounding where the ball didn't meet the line of scrimmage on Indiana(recall the boos?) but they just called it on Michigan which was the correct call cause it didn't meet the line of scrimmage but consistency.

But yeah Michigan is playing an ugly and at times Rodriguez can't make up his mind on what QB to play.

34. It was quite a sequence
Edited on Sat Sep-26-09 02:57 PM by fishwax
1st and goal from the 2 and the got it to the 1. 2nd and goal they got very close, it was really less than six inches from the goal line. 3rd and goal they come out in the wishbone, but do a play-action pass (!) -- the guy is wide open in the end zone but one of the safeties who had tried to jam the line jumped up at just the right time and knocked it down. 4th down they run the wishbone again, and the QB keeps it but can't get in. If he'd extended his arms, he would have gotten it over the goal line, but he ducked his head and tried to plow his way.

LSU got the ball back and MSU had three timeouts, so they'll get one more chance -- LSU took a safety on the punt from their own endzone, so now it's a 4-point game and LSU is kicking off from the 20 with about 50 seconds left ...

On edit: now it's over--MSU went 4-and-out on the ensuing possession.

Not that pre-season rankings are authoritative, but I don't think that's ever happened to a BCS conference before. Even now, Cincinnati is the only one ranked, though Pittsburgh and South Florida will be close.

I just checked the schedule and that game is 10/15. Both teams have a bye week the week before to prepare. Should be a fun game :)

I certainly thought at least Cincy should be in there. Of all the heisman talk QB Tony Pike SHOULD be in the mix. 165 rating, 923 yds, 8 touchdowns, with a whopping 70% completion percentage.

Edit Those are yesterday's stats.

He added 300 yards and 3 touchdowns today with a 69.2% of his passes so make that 1223 yds and 11 touchdowns.

Was there an injury?

I've always liked the Bulls because of how quickly their program developed and because Leavitt is such a fired-up guy that he's fun to watch. Plus he shares a coaching line with Bob Stoops, and they played OU a couple of times when they first moved up to Division I-A, so I got to see them play up close ... even though OU beat them in those games, USF's effort and energy were impressive, and they didn't lose by much.

Daniels played the last half of the game, but this was his starting debut.

I graduated right before the football program started. I was happy to see them get the invite to the Big East a few years ago as the first couple years were pretty painful to watch.

I live in an area filled with Tech fans ( including some coworkers and friends) and I was surprised to hear how many people were picking Miami to win in Blacksburg-- might be the greatest home field advantage in college

If you don't get ESPNU, you might be able to find someone on www.justin.tv who is watching it, but since it's on that channel instead of one of ESPN or ESPN2 it might be hard to find. Worth a try, though.

Anyway, that sucks!

You will be fine. Just beat those arrogant asses south and east of East Lansing. Will be pulling for you.

I don't dislike any other team, and always root for the Big Ten. Except for one. Which has the most egotistical, arrogant fans in the nation. Most of whom never took a class there. Or even KNOW anyone who took a class there.

They love to shop at WalMart, though: http://walmartwolverines.com/

You sort of know me.

And I grew up in the East Lansing area so I know a few things about fans who did not attend that university; some who have threatened to throw bricks through my car window (in a suburban parking lot on a summer day), screamed vulgar names at me when I was simply walking down the street, and much much more.

Be careful. I like you Faygo Kid, but there's a very apt proverb about glass houses that could apply here.

He was hit hard by a blitzing linebacker and on the way down his head hit someone's leg so he had whiplash twice. He was laying there for 5-10 minutes and he was visibly woozy on the sidelines. Florida has the backup QB in now.

On edit Tebow looks ok. I think it was just a head injury maybe a concussion.

I'm now watching Iowa vs Penn St and I just heard Herbstreit say "It was closer then we all thought." :eyes: I knew it was going to be close just based on how the defense looks especially the linebacker corp. Iowa just returned a block kick for a touchdown.

Ok back to my point but I believe ASU will do some good things. Hopefully the defense gives the same effort against Oregon St.

The Dawgs are giving us out here in Bulldog Nation heartburn this year. It's going to be a long rebuilding year and with our schedule, I'm thinking we're about to take a thumping real soon.

LSU at home next week. Tennessee on the road after that. Then Vandy. One bye week and then Florida.

I'm not going to have any hair after the next month!

Anyway, hope your guys do good things on your side of the world :)

146. I fault him much more for failing to run ONE, single blitz down there.
I can see why he TO'd. he wanted some time if they scored

I knew they'd lose, though; they always find a way

against Oregon they threw TWO interceptions for touchdowns...not one, but two, and lost by missing a two point conversion after they'd come back from a pretty big deficit at the end

typical

147. And Notre Dame will continue to get credit for pulling out wins against poor competition
Of the three teams that Notre Dame has beaten, Purdue is the only one that has won a game against an FBS school. They beat Toledo.

Next week they play Washington.

Go Huskies.
