Angry diehards snub Clinton call for unity: "A highly vocal minority"
Financial Times: Angry diehards snub Clinton call for unity
By Edward Luce in Washington
Published: June 25 2008

....(A) highly vocal minority of Mrs. Clinton’s supporters have chosen to ignore her plea altogether. Under the umbrella group, Just Say No Deal, diehard Clintonites have set up more than 100 anti-Obama websites in the last 20 days, most of them boiling with indignation.

Some, such as I Own My Vote and No Quarter, are self-explanatory. Others, such as Done – Democrats Over Nominating Elitists – and Puma – Party Unity My Ass – choose memorable acronyms. With nicknames such as Barky, Nobama and Oblahblah, none are complimentary towards their party’s nominee. Many of the sites are run by women who believe that Mrs Clinton was the victim of a sexist alliance between the mainstream media and Mr Obama’s campaign. Yet much of the language they deploy could easily be mistaken for what comes out of right-wing talk radio....

***

Political analysts say that drawn-out nominating battles often leave a residue of bitterness that can take weeks or longer to die down. Howard Dean, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee and former presidential candidate, told the Financial Times that it took two months for his supporters to get over their “grieving” in 2004 and transfer their loyalties to John Kerry.

Opinion polls suggest that many of Mrs Clinton’s supporters – up to a quarter of whom say they will not vote for Mr Obama – are still in the grieving stage. Others are backing Mr Obama because Mrs Clinton has told them to do so....

Many more, says Norman Ornstein, a political analyst in Washington DC, will reluctantly transfer their loyalties after they see Mrs Clinton campaigning with Mr Obama in New Hampshire tomorrow. Mr Obama’s offer to help Mrs Clinton raise funds to pay off some of her campaign debts – which exceed $20m – could provide an added sweetener....

1. Let 'em vent...The shelf life on this won't be long
much as the diehards presently insist to the contrary.

3. Though I do understand the anger, they are using their outrage
to self destruct.

None of us are getting 100% of what we want and the way things look and feel to many of us, is disheartening. Realizing what a huge "game" politics is I understand that those of us who want change aren't always happy with some things that are said by any candidate.

I too think this will be short lived but if not we can deal with it. I don't care how badly any of us wanted to see another candidate as the nominee, the majority of us are sucking it up and doing the right thing for ourselves and each other.

Unfortunately the wheel of change turn much too slowly. Peace to all those who feel abused and disheartened.

4. No doubt many of those are Limbaugh's Hillary supporters...
...or other Repukes who never voted for her at all but simply want to instigate as much in-party Democratic strife as possible.

5. i received an e-mail from the clinton committee
wanting me to help pay off her debt. in the body of the e mail it mentioned that she was supporting the democratic presidential candidate. there was no mention of barack obama as being the democratic candidate.

is there a reason why they still refuse to concede that barack obama is the democratic candidate?

could the reason be she needs to pander to the people who refuse to vote for barack to help her pay off her debts or to keep her "quest" alive in case obama fails?

6. Of course she has conceded that Obama is the nominee
Your interpretation of that e-mail is, quite frankly, completely ridiculous.

9. Her debt, her fault
The math plainly stated that she was out of the running at least a month prior and she insisted on spending money and continuing. It wasn’t like she wasn’t encouraged to get out. I wont contribute a dime to bailing her out.

P.S. Love all the support she and Bill have poured into the Obama campaign. /Sarcasm off.

13. It is not as if Bill and Hillary can't make up the debt either!
He receives a rather hefty honorarium for his speeches alone!

I'll bet at least half are right wingers posing as Hill supporters.
