No negative impact for conceal carry statewide -- Holders are law-abiding, not dangerous
Look at this analysis by David Thul regarding MN Permit-to-Carry Holders:

Back in 2003 when Minnesota became a shall issue state for handgun permits, the left raised a fearful cry about the state turning into the Wild West, shootouts in bars and churches, and in general a huge surge in gun violence.

In 2004, the left hailed the completion of the light rail train in Minneapolis that would move people around the city without the need for pollution causing cars, start a trend towards Smart Growth in Minnesota and even thwart terrorism.

The interesting truth of these two major changes in Minnesota is quite the opposite. Light rail has killed at least 2 1/2 times as many Minnesotans than conceal carry permit holders have.

--snip--

So a maximum of two individuals in the entire state of Minnesota have used a firearm in a way that was possibly unlawful under our Permit-to-Carry laws. That is fairly impressive, and shows that the claim that allowing permit-to-carry will make shootings more frequent is basically false.

--snip--

And a state report confirms the fact that permit-holders are law-abiding, not dangerous, says the Mankato Free Press Editorial Department.

1. Two too many - did they commit murder or just everyday gun mayhem?
if so - is that a acceptable death toll?

2. For gun lovers? Of course it is. The gun death toll is utterly irrelevant.

11. For gun haters, it's OK if you get victimized by violent crime.

And for gun haters it doesn't matter how many people get victimized by violent criminals with no means to resist. You'd throw the baby out with the bathwater.

14. Celtic, your post might get a little more respect
If you used a little respect and left out the "gun lovers" comments, otherwise it will be viewed as what it is, flamebait.

9. An acceptable total would be a rate equal to that of the general population.
So if the general population has 100 mishaps per 100,000 population then that same rate would be an acceptable rate for CCW holders. It would show that no extra harm was being done. However, CCW holders have been shown to have rates far below that of the general population, so we are proven to be much safer than all others.

10. I'd say so.
Two people died so that tens of thousands of people can resist violent crime without resorting to a physical contest of strength. Two people died so that the weak need not be at the mercy of the strong.

Sounds OK to me.

6. Misses the point. Should not be promoting gun culture or guns and ammo in the hands of the public.
It is harmful on a macro scale.

Shame on America for such idiocy.

12. Supporting the war on drugs, eh?
Color me unsurprised. If you can't trust people with their own bodies, you don't believe in freedom at all.

Are you a morphine addict?

16. It's a product that people want which is denied them for their own (and everyone's) good.
It makes access to guns and ammo look like profoundly inconsistent foolishness.
