I feel sorry for Haggards wife
Besides her being very lovely, if you saw the look on her face during the most resent interview with them in the car. She looked like someone kicked her in the stomach.

It's sad the situation she's in but this is her time to pack up her bags and get the hell out.
She's also a supporter of anti-gay zealot sleezebag and deserves to live with the destruction that dirtbag
is going to bring his family.

She has undoubtedly benefited from the wealth and power accumulated by the hatemongering Haggard. She gets to participate in the gutter slide too. I think she believes her god-book-o-rules demands that she remains obediently devoted to her miserable hubby. Oh too bad your meal ticket turned all sour on you. Waaaaa.

Edited on Fri Nov-03-06 04:10 PM by Vorta
For years wives and girlfriends didn't go down with gangsters and drug dealers. of course it's impossible for these women to not know what their husband or boyfriend does for a living. They spend the money. They are criminals. The wives of religious hooligans are hooligans too.

I don't know if I feel pity; she obviously had a screw loose to be anywhere near that guy, but her world is definitely crashing in around her and I hate to see anyone suffer.

I would not call her lovely. She might be pretty, but I doubt she's lovely.

31. yest the kids are the TRUE victims here. Even more, they are the
victims because they are being raised in such a dysfunctional, hate filled gutter. If they are bright it will be even tougher for them as the world begins to look less and less like what they were taught as they grow older. This can be very traumatic. I know.

endorses men to lie to themselves and female partners. Frankly I think every religious person no matter the creed that opposes open homosexulaity should identify which daughter they want to sacrifice to closet homosexuals - to keep homosexuals in the closet women are required to be their partners.

16. It was okay that her husband syphoned money from the gummint
and from church members, who, like most Americans, are probably struggling to make ends meet. She's not innocent. She's part of the Taking Class. Besides, every woman runs the risk of being married to down-low husband. She's no different.

19. She got what was coming since the day she met him...a fall
She has been married to a fraud in every sense of the word, and he finally fell from his false loft, and she HAD to know. The moment I saw him speak, my Gaydar exploded into tiny pieces I am still cleaning up.

He is a homophobic homosexual, a drug using teetotaler, a lying man of the cloth, an adulterer.

They have made millions extorting the ignorance, intolerance, hatreds, fears and prejudices of their flock for years, doing a disservice to his flock and the world at large.

Fuck the both of em. I revel in their downfall. It serves as an example of how not to conduct yourself and offers a wonderful opportunity for many in the Evangelical flock to snap out of their spells and reclaim their own souls.

22. I agree. Let's reserve our sympathy for those who need it.
My take is that she had to have known what he was all about and she was okay with it as long as the fleecing of the flock was continuing apace and providing her with the creature comforts to which she'd become accustomed. Moreover, she apparently had no problem in supporting him as he pushed his bigoted and hateful social agenda. Screw 'em both. I'll save my sympathy and support for the Cindy Shehans of the world, our troops, and the Iraqi families torn to shreds by the madmen who run this country.

23. Yep
I used to date the DA's daughter in high school. Political midsized Louisiana town. This guy was a cross dressing, coke snorting, child and wife beating, racist, lovechild having typical Republican. I can remember going to her house for dinner and seeing the DA, an assistant DA and a few other local nobles playing cards with a gun on the table and a pile of coke from the evidence room on a mirror, and not a flinch of care when I walk in.

His wife? She was Tammy Faye essentially, and would spend all of her time coked and pilled out, in the whirlpool or pool, driving the Lexus around town.

When he was caught, she acted as if she had no idea. Her own daughters and neighbors turned on her until she quit denying it.

She knew, and she made a decision that the issues were worth the local fame and comfort of piles of money and the DA laying next to you.

Same thing. This man's wife HAD to know. NO pity for her. I pity the dumbasses who spent their hard earned money on meth for their hypocritical gay pastor.

I'm sure she is freaked out, her whole world collapsing, but her divorce lawyer will reassemble it to some degree. She will be comfortable. She might play the victim, and come out of this smelling like a rose.

Of course she might stay with him. She might truly love him.

We just don't know right now.

36. Nope, sorry, no pity
She walked into a marriage with a bottom feeding right wing religious nut with her eyes wide shut. She benefited from the money, the fame, the hatemongering, and had his kids.
Would you be sorry for Eva Braun? Would you be sorry for Ceaucescu's wife, or Eva Peron, or Imelda Marcos?

And as someone pointed out, these bastards hide behind their wives and kids to mask their hypocrisy and hate. And sometimes the wife and kiddies cooperate and enable the slugs - GW and Laura and the girls, Lynne Cheney and what's her name.

She knew what she was getting into when she married a bottom crawling, hate spewing lizard like Haggard. How could she not, especially if she held the same views.

Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 08:04 PM by beaconess
is really sad - especially coming from folks in the party that's supposed to be the good guys. This is how I expect the other side to greet people's personal misfortunes, but we should be above this kind of nasty, judgmental, Rush Limbaugh-type attacks on people just because we think we may disagree with their politics or lifestyles (even if we don't a damned thing about them) - it's one of the things that makes us different from thm.

I agree with you - I feel very sorry for her, too.

39. These people spread so much hatred and intolerance that it's hard not to lash out
These fundamentalists are scary to me and I think that they are a direct threat to our democracy. I like to see them fall and it is difficult to muster up any sympathy for any of them as they are so abusive to so many good people. However, I am making an effort to muster up some sympathy for the wife and certainly for the kids. I know people in a similar situation and it is painful for the family. I can't imagine it can't also be tremendously painful for them. As one person said, I hope that this opens their eyes and they can find true love and compassion.

41. So true
I certainly understand - and feel myself - the frustration and anger. But I also feel very strongly that one of the things that separates us from them is that we don't turn hateful and nasty and spiteful toward our opponents the way they do. It's always easy to say, "Of course I have every right to hate them - they deserve it." But that's exactly what THEY think, as well - they judge and hate, not because they think it's wrong, but because they think we deserve it and they have every right to do so. I really think we have to strive to be better than that or, what's the point if we're going to turn into exactly what we are fighting against?

As my grandmother used to say about Richard Nixon, "Jesus teaches me that I must love my enemies and when I have trouble doing that, I pray for the will to love them. But with Nixon, I have to pray for the will to even pray for the will to love him!"
