Uncommitted Super Delegates Back Off Plan to Endorse Obama

Clinton's Wins Halt Move of Superdelegates to Obama

March 6 (Bloomberg) -- Hillary Clinton scored more than just three presidential primary victories this week. She also helped freeze a movement of top Democrats set to call on her to concede to rival Barack Obama.

A group of uncommitted ``superdelegates'' were ready to make a show of support for Obama by trying to pressure Clinton to give up, said Tim Roemer, a former congressman who's rounding up backers for Obama. Now, after her wins in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, many will still back Obama without calling on Clinton to quit, he said.

Obama, an Illinois senator, aimed to knock Clinton out of the race by capitalizing on an 11-contest winning streak to claim the mantle of undisputed front-runner. The 795 superdelegates -- party officials and lawmakers who aren't bound by primary results -- are critical as neither candidate is positioned to gain enough delegates through elections to win the nomination.

``Instead of being a slam dunk for Obama, it's a horse race again,'' said South Carolina Representative John Spratt. Spratt said he's undecided after Clinton's success this week, even though Obama is his ``presumptive choice'' because his constituents backed him in the state's Jan. 26 primary.

15. Darn, this thread is just not going the way that Beatlebot...
... had hoped. Just wait. A few emails, a couple of IMs, and the ever decreasing flock of jerkers will join the circle.

8. I think the Clintons are taking credit for nothing more than a delay
It made no sense to announce a large SD endorsement while Hillary was dominating the newscycle after her two wins Tuesday.

Theres a good chance the announcement is just delayed until after Obama wins the next two states that dont matter to Hillary.

10. I expect the pressure to mount for them to become running mates.
MSNBC was saying the other night (to the delight of the Obama supporters) that he had done enough right now to *at least* earn the VP slot. Well, Hillary is close behind.

Most superdelegates are politicians. It will come down to either:

a) making one camp happy, and the other camp very angry

or

b) making one camp happy, and the other less happy, but saving face.

What do you think the politicians are going to do???

18. What Obama supporters feel happy that he could be VP?
I have not heard those words from any that I've talked to ~

I would not want him any where near Billary. I wouldn't even want him to be his VP. She would probably undermine him with the Republicans like she is doing now.

I am sure they would push him out just like they did Gore.

Can't stand them ~

they will start flipping back to Hillary. That's when it's over for BO.

You have to show you can take more than a few red states (point taken on WA) to get the delegates.

There are no caucuses during the GE -- play time is over by then and it's the real deal.

23. He'll take many of those 26, plus all of Hillary's Big Blue's.
You aren't suggesting places like CA and NY and MA would go to Dubya McSame over Obama are you?

He has won much more than "a few red states" He has won more votes. More Democratic votes. More delegates. More States. Raised much more money.

He has won the red states. He has won many blue states. He has won states that have been red, that he will take and turn blue.

16. But they still support him.
He's picked up 53 super-delegates since Super Tuesday, and he has a stash of 50 more hanging around. I say this is SUPER for Obama.
