1. went to Muscatine and Columbus Junction Saturday
We were quite concerned about Muscatine since that is the home of the Republican money and Iowans for Tax Relief. Remember that crap that Iowans for Tax Relief pulled last March in the legislature?
We got there an hour early and Mrs. Lib passed out "I am a health Care Voter" stickers. We had @300 I would guess, at least 2/3rds on the reform side.
Questions were written down and drwn from a hat. They were about 50/50 in mix. Most on the reform side wanted to know when something would happen. The antis basically read talking points and DEMANDED answers. The righties tried to get a hoot rolling but every time they did many people looked at them and asked politely to be quiet. It was truly embarrassing for them.
Dave answered all questions very deftly, in many cases pointing out where they had incorrect facts.
When the forum was over and Dave was gone many folks were standing in groups talking. One righty went up on stage, took the mike and announced that he would he was going to speak. Everybody turned and walked out before he had a sentence out.
We then went down to CJ. There were @75 or so people. About 15 of us were from IC or Muscatine, the rest from Louisa county. That group was believe it or not majority pro reform.
The same process was used. The antis had most of the questions and Dave again handled them deftly. One old guy wouldn't give up the mike. One other guy kept harping about how he could spend his money better than the government etc. But Dave handled him with grace, explained that we did win the election etc. In all it was peaceful.
I heard some stories of Iowa City and it seems that it was a larger turnout but much the same story.
I spoke briefly with Dave and he was very upbeat.

3. No Failors, No Stanley. No ITR
We had heard rumors of FreedomWorks bus in the QCA the night before, but as far as we could tell, no freedomworks.

6. I'm going to Clinton, too.
I'll be the old blond in a bright blue T-shirt with Sparkpeople.com on the front. Look me up and say "Hi".

I'm taking a "Donation" can with a couple of coins in it. If one darn person, says we have the best health care in the world, I'm going to shake it in their face. I'm about the most peacefull person in the world. Always running from a fight, but I'm sick of this shit.

See you there.

7. I'll be a middle aged fat guy from Scott County.
Not real sure what I'll wear as I'm far from a fashion plate, but it's likely I'll be wearing a "panda" hat from Ocean Park in Hong Kong. Black and white and it says "Ocean Park Hong Kong" on the bill. Thinking about passing a hat to collect medicare cards from anyone who says they don't want gov't run health care. I have been known to wade right into spats, fights, whatever. Probably because I'm senseless. And I'm a Union Steward at work.
