Got tickets to go "hear" King Chimpy
I already have a thread going over in GD - Poltics but this is what I added tonight after attending the Metro Democratic Club meeting in Louisville tonight. The interesting part is what the Kentucky State Legislature has been up to lately.

Brief update. I got the tickets. Walked into Buttboy's Louisville office

I told them my name and I was given the tickets. Was not asked to sign any type of an oath. The place was crawling with people groveling asking for tickets. One grand dame ahead of me kept saying over and over again to the wonk please tell me who I can call and thank for these tickets. I will NOT forget this favor. From my brief encounter there were plenty of tickets to go around.

After picking up the tickets I went to a local Democratic Club meeting and I was blown away. They had excellent speakers - an actual actuary (try saying that three times!) from the University of Louisville who broke down all the figures on Social Security, the state treasury who broke them down further on what they are going to cost Kentuckians and a state congressman who laid it out in plain English - this is just a power grab to solidify the Republican donor base through Wall Street. (They already has the Rx drug companies in their back pockets with the Medicare Rx drug plan.

One more interesting note - last night in the late evening the repugs of the Kentucky Senate and House quietly "borrowed" "transferred" or "stole" $13.5 million that PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS have set aside for the Kentucky CAPPS prepaid program (savings program for college tuition) to help balance the budget. Mongarnio (I know the spelling is wrong - too tired to look it up) asked the very valid question - if the government will take the money from the saving plans for kids college education what makes you think that they won't take the money from the individual Social Security accounts? You know, like the IOUs they are leaving for Social Security right now. And while taking the CAPPS money they also, very, very quietly voted themselves a pay raise. Now how's that for brass balls?

After the meeting I gave the tickets to the first three people at the meeting that said they would go and try to ask a question. Honestly, the protest outside during the Chimp's visit sounds much more fun and informative it will be hard to leave them and go in with the dullards! I'll let you know how the day went tomorrow night.
