We're finally heading to New Zealand!
Soup to nuts, the immigration process has taken nearly 1 full year, but we are finally heading to New Zealand at the end of July/beginning of August. My wife and I have committed to giving it 2-3 years to see if life there is really for us.

There's a lot that has gone into making this happen, and if anyone else is serious about NZ, please feel free to post or PM me. I'd be more than happy to help anyway I can!

BTW, here's a great forum for support/advice: http://www.movetonz.org/forum/

1. I hope you find delightful holiday activities there.
As that will be who you are.

Be well, and good with others.

dreamily smiling, fondly recalling,
Fes

2. Good luck!
Remember that culture shock will occur to some degree, even moving to an English-speaking country, and that you need to tough it out for at least six months before giving up.

Things will be different in subtle ways that you can't predict. Hell, I suffered culture shock moving from Minnesota to the East Coast, and that's within the same country.

But if you survive culture shock, you will be stronger for it, and you will have two "homes."

3. Congratulations....that's very cool!
My husband and I have talked about moving out of the country after he retires. New Zealand was on our list of maybes, along with France, Italy, Costa Rica, and a few places in South America.

Thanks for posting the link. I checked it out and it looked interesting. I wish you and your wife much happiness in New Zealand. Be sure to keep us all posted.

4. Congrats to you! We looked at NZ in 1994--now it's too late for us
at retirement age, since NZ doesn't want retirees. We're building in Panama and HOPE to retire there after 2008.
