I watched "Newsies" again the other night.
Yeah, it's got a lousy screenplay and everyone looks like they've got a bad case of St. Vitus' Song-and-dance and Christian Bale has the worst New Yahk accent in the world, but Alan Menken's songs from it always struck a chord with me. Especially because it came out shortly after after I'd been forced out of a job by anti-gay harassment, and the message in the music touched me.

Open the gates and seize the day.
Don't be afraid and don't delay.
Nothing can break us, no one can make us
Give our rights away.

The message of the little guy taking on entrenched power and winning was a strong one.

Five thousand fists in the sky,
Five thousand reasons to try.
We're going over the wall.
Better to die than to crawl.

Today was a major victory, but it was only one battle. There will be more to come. But with momentum on our side (not to mention justice and right) we will win the war.

Wrongs will be righted, if we're united.

Today we celebrate. Tomorrow we return to the battlefield. Reunited with the allies we thought had deserted us, we march onward.

Equality for all, or there is no justice.
