Is it my browser?
I’ve had trouble for a couple of months now—I have trouble getting more than two windows open on my browser. (I’ve found a “back door” way of getting more windows.) At first I thought it might have something to do with the change-over to digital that cable companies were doing. I use TimeWarner for both wireless computer connection and cable TV. The trouble with getting a limited number of windows open at the same time seemed to start in February, when the digital switch was taking place.

Is this a problem with my browser? If so, should I switch browsers? And, if I switch, to which browser should I switch? Oh, important factoid: I use Internet Explorer as my browser.

1. TW has a bad rap...
As a telecommunications provider, and rightfully so, as they seem completely and utterly enamoured as reducing access to the Internet and Internet bandwidth as much as possible. Some suspect it is to cut down on delivery of video content, as such delivery is competitive with their cable TV operation.

I suspect that what they are doing is using "Deep Packet" monitoring and other technologies to limit the number of simultaneous connections you might have to the internet. In this manner, they can squash Bittorrent clients. WHen you open more than two browser sessions, you exceed their limit. Of course, good luck finding said limit in their EULA. It might be in there, it might not. Doesn't matter to them. They will do as they please until they get called on it.

Shorter version: Look into other High Speed Internet Providers in your area. TW sucks.

4. Yes, they do have a bad rep. The complaint hereabouts is that they just don't

keep up with need re: connections and wiring.

I have a package deal of phone/internet/cable TV thru TWCable. If I want to change a particular service from them, it will be dropped from the bill. I just like the convenience of the single bill for the three (plus I *HATE* using Bell South for phone service).

A new, and horrible, wrinkle: The connection is dropping frequently the last day or so. I'll go to say Amazon, and click on a book, and get this:

Then, eventually, this will come up, and I can start over again:

When I say this is happening "frequently," I mean 3 or 4 times a minute.

If I stay on one page, reading an article, it doesn't happen as much.

I need to call and see what their excuse ju jour is on this.

Yeah, I'll have to see about other providers!

2. What happens
when you try to open more windows? Do you have trouble if you use tabs instead?
I have TW and use Firefox. I always have multiple tabs open.

3. I just CAN'T open more windows--I HAVE found a "back door" way of getting
more windows open--I go to a site that features separate links, and open extra windows that way.

I don't use the tabs, simply because I never got used to them. I would use them if it helps!
