OK...I'm baffled...One of my son's friends gave me an iMac...
I have no experience w/Macs. I plugged it in and turned it on last night...so far so good...:D

A box came up in the left upper corner that says, "Creating index of 'uuuy'", and says "Time remaining: About 99 hours", (this changes and varies from 101 to 79 hrs so far). The progress bar is about 1/5 of the way across, and I'm just leaving it alone at this point.

My question: What is going on?

Also, the date/time has 5:17 PM, (it is 12:14 PM local) and the date is 1/10/4.

I tried to change the date, no go, error msg comes up about possible backup battery problem, (no idea how to find battery in this thing).

Tag on outside a has specs:

512 Mhz 512MB RAM
19GB BD CD R/W OS 10.3

Can someone w/experience in Macs please tell me something about this thing...I don't even know about the mouse on this thing...:D

Thanks for whatever help/info you can give me...:hi:

2. I don't have a Mac.
I was trained to support them for Internet, but we had a simulator.

A quick Google reveals that name is a domain ...
http://www.who.is/whois/uuuy.com/

Is it connected to the Internet? Does it have any spywarevirus detector tool installed?

3. No, I'm using my pc for the net...
I need to get another ethernet line for the mac...but I want to know if it is "ready" to go online as far as spyware protection and all of that.

Besides, i haven't the foggiest notion how to figure out the mouse just yet...so used to pc's that this "single button thing" has me baffled as well...:D

4. Is it still running the
"indexing"? What Operating System is it?

There is a lot of information in the group about protection. I do not know what is Mac compatible.
Here's a thread to get you started.

Apple used to have simulated OSs at their website. They may have tutorials.

5. Thanks for the link...
When it popped up the last time, apparently the "uuuy" thing had gone through it's motions, and it came on "Mac OS 9.2".

Tomorrow, I will go and get an ethernet connection and try to figure out how to get online w/the thing. the only icon on the desktop now is "uuuy" in the upper right hand corner.

I tried to use Help, but all I get when I click it is a short bubble on bubbles, and when I click on it, it gives me a slightly longer explanation of bubbles...:eyes:

I've heard some great things about Macs, especially in the Graphics department, but as i play w/the thing, honestly, I get lost in their "system". I'm figuring it is something pretty simple, but sometimes, the obvious is the most hidden...:D
