I think I can safely say it's come a ways since my first post in this forum.

3. I love the amount of color you've used to give depth to a basically monochromatic subject.

I know it's a fairly standard painting technique, but I've retained my sense of wonder every time I see it. I'm a big fan of color and texture (and the methods through which they can be employed to add a third dimension to a 2D construct).

Thanks for the compliment. There were three colors on the palette - soft mixing white, French ultramarine blue, & cadmium red. For an untrained painter (me) it's a great way to get around that limitation & stave off a color disaster.
