Advice on exercise clothing needed
Hello, all. I'm new to this forum. :hi:

I've been going to the YMCA on and off for a couple of years, more regularly in the past couple of months. Since I go more often, I would like to buy another pair of workout pants, but am having trouble finding good ones. Does anyone here have a good source for plus-sized exercise clothing? There's TONS of regular sized stuff out there, but very little for bigger people. I go with anything from capris to full length pants, but they CAN'T be skin tight. Any suggestions?

1. Have you tried plus-size stores
like The Avenue or Lane Bryant?

2. Good suggestion!
Lane Bryant has quite a selection of active wear: http://lanebryant.charmingshoppes.com/pagebuilder/SHOPPING_LANDINGPAGE?PAGEID=1511

I had good luck getting some shorts and sports bras from REI Outlet online but I think they only went up to XL.

5. I hadn't even thought of their online store, thanks!
They did have something I might go with if I don't end up finding something better, so thank you!

3. Just My Size seems to have a lot of exercise stuff.

They've sent me catalogues for years but I was always at the smaller end of plus sizes and now I'm a M-L, so I really don't need them anymore. At least they show clothing on plus-sized models.
BTW, I've never bought from them, just making the suggestion that they might have what you're looking for.

6. I had looked there, and had them on my list to try if I couldn't...
find anything appropriate that was cheaper.

I've never bought from them either, but I've seen their catalogs and agree with you about the models. That bugs me when companies choose to use thin models to sell bigger person clothes. I want to know if an outfit will look good on someone MY size, not just a skinny lady.

4. Target has plus size work out clothing...
that's where I get mine. Its nice stuff, pretty colors, and not very expensive. They even have plus size workout bras.

7. Target was my first choice...
because both my older pairs of workout pants came from there. I like the styles and the prices were great, but a couple of key things have changed about them since I last bought workout pants.

1) They no longer stock 3x
2) The 2x they had in stock run a lot more snugly than the 2x I bought there a few years ago, that I still wear. The ones I tried on a couple of days ago just didn't fit right.

There's nothing like trying on too small clothing to help you feel like crap!

8. Finding workout clothes
Excuse my jumping in here--
Don't know if you've ever tried their stuff, but I really like Lands' End clothing. They've recently really expanded their size range. I'll admit it's not cheap, and it can be intimidating trying to get something you like sight unseen, but I think their quality is very good; the customer service is very patient and helpful and they really seem to know their stock; and to save postage/time, you can return items to your local Sears store, even if you didn't buy them there.
Good luck!

10. the only plus size workout bra I have found to be of any use
is Enell.

The stuff at Target and Sears and K-mart, etc, may FIT a big breasted woman, but it doesn't provide any support at all.

9. Not sure...
I'm going to be much help...but Target/WM usually have a good/decent plus size section, especially for Women.

Myself, I wear athelitic works running shoes, starter 2X sweat pants...they arent conventional sweat pants, their material is very thin/breathable. I also wear a sleeves Hanes tshirt, with a faded glory flannel....

Not sure it helps, but try to find something comfortable, which you can have a great range of motion in....:D

11. I know what you mean - the people who need it the most have the least choices
in this area!? I sew and you can't even find patterns for work-out clothes in plus sizes!

Lane Bryant and Catherine's sometimes have things. So does Target.

I like Just My Size though - I know someone else suggested that on this thread and I definitely second that! They are not too pricey and very comfortable.
