Mediterranean Diet - Cookbook recommendations?
I'll make this short, because I'm cross-posting in C&B as well. We just got home from the hospital - my SO had a heart attack last Tuesday. He's doing much better, but we need to make some changes in diet. He's not too much overweight, and actually his cholesterol levels weren't bad (HDL needs a bit of a bump up). The doctors told us to get on a Mediterranean diet. I know the basics (though I hate all fish, so I'm no good there), and I know that I can look for recipes on the internet, but there's something great about being able to page through a really good cookbook for inspiration.

So, are there any recommendations for a really great Mediterranean cookbook for someone who enjoys cooking, but sometimes runs out of time (so some quick recipes or meal ideas would be good, too), and not on a real extravagant food budget?

Thanks so much for any help! :hi:

I am sorry to hear of your SO's heart attack. That must have been so frightening for both of you. I hope his recovery and the road to good health for him is a smooth one.

keep us posted.

2. Thanks, aunt!
The link looks great, as does the book. I'm headed to the bookstore now, and I'll check back in later to report on what I find there.

Thanks for the good wishes, as well. Yes, it was scary - I'm not sure my brain processed it right away when the emergency room doctor said, "you're having a heart attack" to my partner. But then the doctors and nurses all sprang into action, and you feel like you're just along for the ride.

It's so good to be home now, though - all those nights in the hospital, most of them in Cardiac Intensive Care - well, you just don't get much sleep (particularly with both of us squished into the hospital bed together - there are all sorts of therapy, you know! :D)

3. The Mediterranean Diet Cookbook by Nancy Jenkins
looks very promising. There are many books on Amazon if you search for Mediterranean Diet.

4. The Slow Mediterranean Kitchen
By Paula Wolfert, depending on how much time you have. I got it as a gift and I've only tried a few things due to time but I can tell you the Garlic and Lemon Marinated Chicken Kebabs are good, I had them with brown rice although they recommend tabouli. I'm in the same boat- I hate seafood!
