Progressive Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR) called on President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders to toughen their stance against the GOP approach to solving the deficit purely with spending cuts.

“We should say, they don’t get a single Democratic vote till they stop pretending that you can somehow achieve fiscal responsibility without revenues,” he said Wednesday on MSNBC. “We could cut the deficit in half if we just let (the Bush tax cuts) expire.”

His advice for Obama: “Act like a Democrat.”

5. DeFazio is the real deal and I am proud to have him as my Representative in the House.

I've voted for him every election, watched him on the House floor- hell, even seen him walking around downtown or driving his beat-up truck. We need more like him. He's an incredible asset to the Democratic party but unlike some other members, he's also an incredible asset to the Democratic constituency.

He's a real Leftie, and has been put on notice by Obama that they're "keeping score" when it comes to his Liberal leanings.

I used to know..Democrats used to Stand for Something.. now what I hear is "Everything is Negotiable" Progressive taxation...negotiable....care for the needy..negotiable...education..negotiable...clean energy..negotiable...war..negotiable..Habeas Corpus..negotiable...I do not know any longer what a Democrat is. And that is the absolute truth.

If you sometimes Forget what it means to Be a Dem and What an "old school" Dem is? Look no further than the WI-14 and the IN-37 amongst tons of others at the state level! Those folks give me some assurance that Real Dems are still out there.

Now, how do we recuit these 51 Noble Dems (plus so many others who are not on the news) to DC? They would make a great start in "changing the landscape".

Oregon's 4th. He handily defeated the extreme right wing Republican who challenged him with sacks of cash from back east fat cats paying for heavy media and mailers. He's one of the House Democrats, elected by Democrats.
Peter was also an early and strong endorser of candidate Obama. Deal with it.
