Bush Cabinet Members To Establish Links With Iraqi Counterparts
President says Iraqi leaders have resumed talks to establish unity government

President Bush called upon members of his Cabinet to reach out to their counterparts in Iraq, once a government is formed, in order to build relationships and help Iraqi officials establish a democracy.

Speaking March 28 after a Cabinet meeting, Bush said the U.S. strategy for rebuilding Iraq “is comprehensive, and it includes a commitment from all parts of the federal government.”

“(B)y making a broad commitment from the federal government, we'll help the Iraqis establish a democracy, we'll help them build the institutions necessary for a stable society, and we'll help defeat the terrorists,” he said.

The president said the U.S. ambassador in Baghdad reported to the Cabinet that the Iraqis have returned to the table to negotiate the formation of a unity government. Bush and his Cabinet also received briefings from senior U.S. military commanders about the War on Terror and Iraq.
