Assembly Speaker John Perez has temporarily stopped efforts by the Assembly Chief Sergeant-at-Arms Ron Pane to allow four unnamed legislators to carry concealed weapons in the State Capitol.

<snip>

Some Democrats, like Majority Assembly Floor Leader Charles Calderon, don't agree guns should be in the Capitol at all.

"If there are no guns around, then there can be no gun violence," Calderon said. "At least not from the members standpoint, and hopefully we would catch that through our security system into the building. So it's probably better not to have any guns at all in the building."

Pro gun advocate Assem. Tim Donnelly (R-(edit: moran)Hisperia) disagrees. He said it's not the gun that kills people, it's people who kill people. He supports the right for assembly members to carry concealed weapons.
