Obama to Visit Indianapolis on Saturday

By Christopher Hass - Mar 12th, 2008 at 4:17 pm EDT

As the campaign for the Democratic nomination moves on to the final 10 contests, Barack is making plans to visit Indianapolis, Indiana this Saturday. Details of the event will be posted shortly, and the http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080312/LOCAL19/80312037/0/LOCAL">Indianapolis Star reported this morning:

The Barack Obama campaign announced today that the candidate will visit Indianapolis Saturday.

It would be Obama's first trip to the Circle City in this election cycle, and was expected in light of his tight race with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

… Details of the Obama visit, including time and location, were not immediately announced.

Kip Tew, coordinator of Obama's campaign in Indiana, said that "clearly, we are very excited he's coming to town. It shows he's going to take Indiana very seriously."

Shannon Gilson, a spokeswoman for the Obama campaign, said the senator "will campaign aggressively in Indiana. We have an energized base of support and we're starting to build our organization."

She had no further details on what type of event Obama will hold in Indianapolis.

Indiana could help decide the presidential nominee for the first time in 40 years.

… Indiana's May 6 primary has an import that it hasn't had since the 1984 contest between Vice President Walter Mondale and Sen. Gary Hart.
