7. I've been trying to write a post about this- it's
got more to do with his NOT being fit to be president.

My view is that he still IS a "Prisoner" of the past. That his constant refrences to POW and framing every issue through the lens of his experience in Vietnam, shows him to be stuck in time-

I'm a 'survivor' of some pretty nasty stuff myself. I've spent years struggling to see life without having the past cloud and distort my ability to view today- AND the future in ways that are healthy, and allow me to live fully. I know what it is to 'think' you've overcome your past, but still be hampered by it.

McCain lives, breathes, and sleeps war- military- violence- and control. His ability to see the future, (and present) is compromised by the fact that he is still (in many ways) held prisoner by his past.- I don't know if he uses the "POW" card so much as he is still living there.

I don't think this will make much sense to many people, but I see in him, shades of what I, and others who have survived traumatic past experiences need to work through, and be aware of.

Obama, on the other hand, seems to have truly overcome some of the struggles and issues of his past- (rec. drugs) feeling abandoned by his father, in a VERY healthy, and healing way. He may not have "years" of 'experience', but he has the important quality of being able to look back over his life, and not need to make others the scape-goat for his own behaviours- without loosing his own sense of self worth.

wish I could say this better.
