Robert J. Sharp demonstrated the qualities of a sexual predator, grooming his young victims and taking advantage of their trust, a state prosecutor said Monday.

The wheelchair-bound 74-year-old Norwich man was sentenced to eight years in prison for groping two young girls. Because of his age and health, Judge Susan B. Handy said she appropriately considered it a life sentence.

...

In 2007, allegations surfaced he had repeatedly groped a young girl who was attending his Bible study group in the 1990s. The girl said the abuse occurred when she was 5 or 6 and attending meetings with Biblical Ministries of Connecticut, an informal church group that used to meet at Mohegan Park in Norwich.

...

Norwich investigators also said Sharp admitted to inappropriately touching a young girl in the 1980s while on a fellowship with the Way International Bible Teaching Organization in Arizona.
