1. thank you
there was a book out a few years ago called "VoteScam". I think it was right-wing oriented, but I haven't actually read it, so I could be wrong. It was making allegations about Janet Reno, among others.
The dates you've given are what made me flash back.

I recall in 1988, I did a study of the close states. Dukakis had it really close in the Electoral College, until Bentsen "conceded" too early on election night. People were still in line to vote in IL and I think PA and OH. And western MI was also affected, as were NM and NV. I also found some stuff about Maryland that time.

Some were saying that had Dukakis run with John Glenn, he'd have done better in the Electoral College, and maybe have won.

The Massachussetts plus a Southerner ticket seems to do relatively well in the Electoral College versus what it does in the Popular. This was true for Kennedy/Johnson and for Dukakis Bentsen. Now, Kerry/Edwards.
Is it possible Kerry was the first Dem to win in the Electoral only?

It could be awkward for some big name Dems to get involved if that's the case--after all, Hillary backers have this big issue with the existence of the Electoral College...Historically, Democrats have been beaten several times in the Electoral College while winning the Popular vote. Never has the reverse happened. Until, maybe, 2004...
