It's not just the player that allows you to play DVDs. You need a decryption mechanism.

If memory serves, K-Lite Codec Pac includes a DVD decryption codec and Media Player Classic. Get the complete version, and when you install, just leave all the defaults checked, but skim through the list to make sure the bit that allows you to view DVDs is ticked.
