massive 'dining outs' and we'd enjoy the hell out of them, because easily a third of their wardroom (or whatever the hell they call it) were non-drinking, proud as punch (and drinking that punch, too) Mormons. We USN reprobate-baastids would cheerfully scarf up all the wine they couldn't be bothered to drink and make reasonably short work of it.

The numbers, particular at the senior ranks, were almost freakish, in my experience. My 'default mode' was to assume any general officer I met was Mormon until I learned otherwise.

There are three times more Mormons than there are Jews at the USAF Academy and Jews are, what, one percent of the population as well? I happen to know one of the people who were doing that investigation into the abuses there a few years back, and while the Mormons weren't the big problem in terms of the bullying/prosletyzing that was going on, they were a rather surprising "mass" to the investigators, who knew they were there but were a bit surprised at the numbers.

The ones that stay in, it would seem, move up. They also use them in the intel community to a large extent, because they learn a foreign language, many of them, in order to go do those 'missions' with the shirt and tie and bike, where they run around a foreign country trying to convert people.
