Under The Radar: Over 52 mil Personal Info either stolen or made public...

...at some point people are going to connect the dots and realize that all of these stolen laptops with personal information, all these "inadvertant public disclosures of personal information",etc. are no coincidence. The government is doing nothing to find those responsible for these thefts, which by themselves pose the risk of identity theft. Credit card companies Mastercard and Visa have already cancelled and reissued millions of cards, but the personal information obtained by those who stole it or got it from a public disclosure cannot be protected. Your social security number, date of birth, etc. is out there even though you got a new credit card.

It would appear that "someone" could compile the information and come up with a pretty thorough database on Americans which would bear a close resemblance of that which was proposed by Negroponte as the "Total Information Awareness" program. Of course, Congress specifically ordered that the program be shut down. But since then, Negroponte has become the intelligence czar, and if you were going to populate such a database without tipping off Congress, this would be the way to do it.

Hello? Anybody out there watching this?
