I'm a proud Democrat as well. What I said was not "pure bs". I have been a firefighter for the city of Birmingham for 16 years. I know and have worked with, hundreds of firefighters during my career. We are a tight knit group, and know one another pretty well. Most of the FFs I have known are no different than most people in AL., the exception being, how they claim to vote. The majority are against abortion, against G&L marriage, and in favor of the war, but say they voted for Kerry. The reason why they voted for Kerry? because of our union's support for him, that makes them single issue voters, and that was my point. JK promised to push for collective bargaining for all FFs, and increased federal funding for fire depts, things that are very important to FFs., without those, most would have voted repug, if they voted based on their views. A vote is private, only the person casting it really knows how it was cast, I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few towed the union line until they were in the voting booth, and then switched.
