If the portion of voters is high then I am wrong about the diminished political impact.

Its also important because it is legal immigrants who are displaced by illegal immigrants - that's the reason that there is no support for increased immigration quotas when economically we need another million legal immigrants.


I think its a litmus test. If I tell someone that we need another million legal immigrants and they look horrified then I conclude they likely don't really care border security -they just don't want more immigrants period - a very short sighted position given that continued immigration has been the lifeblood of the country and that newly arrived legal immigranta who waited to have thier chance are some of our most productive workers and become exptremely productive citizens.
