Furthermore, republic and democracy are two different concepts which these morons usually have a tough time wrapping their feeble brains around. Technically we are a Constitutional Democratic Republic. We do have a constitution as the law of the land (Constitutional), we elect our representatives via somewhat democratic method (Democracy), and we do not have a king and our head of state is selected and not for life (Republic).

I am however of the opinion that our founding fathers' views on "democracy" were deeply flawed. They saw our country as a patrician democracy, which is something veeeeeeery different from an actual populist democracy favored around the world, esp. after WWII. And that spirit is still prevalent in our democracy through the years, that is why the highest represented segment of our population in government is also our smallest: millionaires. Thus keeping with that original patrician view our founding fathers had for their design. The level of dow right scorn they had for the "masses" is not a good thing, at all...
